Enough Already

An editorial response to the lawsuit filed by Bradley Fowler against both Zondervan and Nelson publishers for printing Bibles that call homosexuality a sin.

The battle for homosexual acceptance has gone a little too far. Michigan resident Brad Fowler has decided to (get this) SUE two of the world's largest Bible publishers for re-printing sentiments that were in the Bible LONG before the companies themselves even existed. Of course if you (like myself) consider the Bible to be the Word of God you run into a problem deciding upon whom to sue. Even the men credited for putting the words on paper millenniums ago have long since died.

Here's where my frustration lies: why not just live your life and say “to hell” with whoever is not pleased with your decisions? It is impossible to please EVERYBODY. Therefore it is rather idiotic to haul Bible publishers into court because you feel that their publication has influenced other people to judge you negatively. Apparently you give the Bible more credit than you're willing to admit, sir. If you felt like there was nothing was wrong with your choices then you would certainly have no problem with a book that says differently. There are plenty opinions and ideals in the world that go against ANY NUMBER of decisions a person could make from day to day. Why is it that this ONE issue gets so much press time, political consideration and advocacy when the bottom line is that a person has the ability to do whatever he or she chooses?

The bottom line is that there are plenty of people Christians who indulge in homosexual behavior and are very well aware of the fact that it goes against the teachings of their faith. And for many of them, life is a daily struggle to conform their fleshly desires to their beliefs. This is no different from Christians who struggle with heterosexual un-married sex. You can have a wonderful emotional relationship with a person without having sex with them (if that is what the need really is). Truth be told, all sexual sin is about pleasing the FLESH, nothing more. The quicker people admit that they are just doing what they want to do and STOP trying to force people to accept their decisions, the better. After all, there is plenty about myself that I know doesn't line up with the Bible and I KNOW that the Bible is the Word of God but you won't find me in court trying to re-write the Bible to fit my fancies. If people don't like where you are right now SO WHAT. How long do you intend to live your life according to what other people think? If you ask me, all of this advocating and pressuring courts and churches is nothing but a cover up for the way some of the so-called liberals “really” feel about where they have found themselves. What's next? Will we legalize pederasty and bestiality? And when it gets to that level (and trust me, at this rate it will) won't it be too late to turn back. God set a standard for living that is hard for ALL of us, but that gives us no right to abandon the standard and take the easy way out by dismissing all accountability for our OWN decisions.
