The Tiger's Roar

The story of Saturday's round at the U.S. Open was not Rocco Mediate's collapse, nor Tiger's knee, and not even Phil's score of nine on one hole. This was Tiger's day, due to his remarkable Back-9.

When the dust settles, Tiger stands.

We are now entering the fourth and final round of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, in California. Tiger, after undergoing knee surgery 3 weeks ago, is feeling the pain once more. Because of his 128-mile-per-hour swing and the torque it creates, an immense amount of pressure is being placed on his left knee, which is the knee he had surgery on.

Watching his performance in the previous two rounds, one can notice the great deal of pain Tiger felt after each tee, and even wedge, shot.

But the real story here is thus: Tiger  Woods battled against his knee pain to have  one of the best Back-9's in U.S. Open history,  in the third round of play. Woods not only achieved a remarkable finish on Saturday afternoon, he also took the lead. With the collapse of fan-favorite Rocco Mediate, Tiger thrived and finished the day at three below par. Woods finished the day with 2 Eagles and 2 Birdies, including a 70-foot downhill putt with 6 feet of break for an eagle.

Tiger has the knee injury to worry about. It won't just go away. But based on the previous three rounds, we can come to realize one thing: Tiger will continue to be the best golfer ever and, in one way or another, will win the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
