Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shiver, Chuck Norris, George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger are just a few of the Hollywood stars that have come out to endorse a Presidential candidate. Are people influenced by these kinds of gimmicks? A recent USA Today poll says no. A loud and resounding 95% of voters said that those endorsements did not influence them at all and a mere 5% said it did.
When the American people are deciding whether or not to vote for someone, we look at the candidate, the candidate's family, prior voting record and political standing. When we are deciding, we might listen to friends, family, church family, other politicians and newscasters, but very few people want to listen to people who make so much money that a huge tax hike would not even make a dent in their finances.
Now having a Hollywood star come out and say they support a candidate is a great thing, but politicians should be focusing on us little people; getting our votes and endorsements are what really count on Election Day. There are only a few thousand Hollywood stars that can vote as American citizens, but there are billions of Americans “regular” people who are voting and our votes count more.
