Among the FFS, I have a reputation for being proved right by hindsight. Every so often I will observe the news, link two or more stories, and make a prediction. I actually fell about laughing when it was revealed that bio-fuels drive up the price of food, because I'd been saying it for months. I could have told you that Benazir Bhutto was going to be assassinated. Even as we speak, I'm being proved right about the future of South America. Sure, it's quiet at the moment, but you watch; by 2012 there will a US invasion of that continent staged from Colombia.
It's 0312 hrs Mar 21 st , 2008 and just because no one ever credits it until after the fact, when I can't prove I said it first, just to prove that I am bloody right about these things more often than not, I'm telling you about my prediction now, before it happens.
Item: There is rioting in Tibet. Or rather, there was, since the Chinese army just invaded. That was just on the news, just now.
Item: The 14 th Dalai Llama recently announced his intention not to re-incarnate, but to leave his successor to be chosen by his people. Likewise, the Chinese have declared that they will elect their own 15 th Dalai Llama.
Item: The Chinese government has accused the current Dalai Lama of fomenting the violence in Tibet. The Dalai Llama has replied that he will go to Beijing to answer their accusations.
The Dalai Llama, most venerable of venerable old men, will go to Beijing. There will be a massive police presence because millions will turn out to watch him walk past the tanks and soldiers; he may even walk through Tianamen Square beneath the eyes of the world. And someone will shoot him.
Scenario: The Dalai waves and the crowd rush forward to greet him. The police and the army misinterpret this as an uprising and respond with force. At the centre of the riot, an old man calls for peace until a young Chinese soldier rifle-butts him in the head.
Scenario: A lone gunman, possibly a Buddhist fanatic who believes his Dalai will be reborn and so can play both martyr and messiah, lies in wait to cap the old man from a distance.
Scenario: The Chinese government has the Dalai Llama deliberately assassinated to make way for their chosen stoolie.
Whatever precisely happens, by going to Beijing the Dalai Llama is walking to his execution. He's been in exile for nearly fifty years, and he choose now to return. He knows he's going to his death, but he must also know, being far wiser and more perceptive than I, that it is the only way to win the battle he has fought all his life. If the Dalai Llama were to die in Beijing, any successor selected by the Chinese will be utterly discredited and the rise of a new Dalai from the popular Tibetan masses is inevitable.
Dead or alive, I predict that the 14 th Dalai Llama will be a key figure in world events leading up to 2012.
