Government by the People: A Joke

Election process has been taken from the people. How can the people gain control again?

I don't remember ever hearing the term “super delegate” until a few months ago when a TV reporter was discussing whether Michigan's primary votes should count. In my 72 years on this planet I've always kept up with current events. When was the super delegate created? So now we have super delegates who decide the nominees and the Electoral College which decides who wins the election. What about me and my vote?

I wonder what's next. What group will find another way to discount our votes. I want my vote tallied. I don't want a delegate, unknown to me, deciding who I want to support. I'm not even given the opportunity to choose this person, or am I? What the hell is going on?

I am furious that my vote for Hillary Clinton was thrown away. It didn't count at all. Why did I vote for Hillary? She was the only candidate on the ballot … another travesty. I'm not unhappy that Obama is the democratic nominee but I'm not going to vote for him or McCain. The one man whose beliefs and plans for our country agree with me is Libertarian Robert Barr. So I've lost again because there's no way in hell that Barr with be our next president.

I've done a lot of thinking lately and suspect that George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and many others of our country's patriots are whirling in their graves. How did we the American people lose control of our country? It's no longer “government by the people”. It's government by big business which controls the politicians who seem to control absolutely nothing. The politicians have no concern for the American people. They care only about power and how much money they can put into their bank accounts. Big business is their benefactor.

Everyone I talk to … all of my friends and neighbors … agree that we've lost control of our country. We want change but how can we accomplish this change. We put our trust in Washington and the people we elect but they fail us every single time.

I did not vote for George W. Bush because I saw him as a smug, ignorant, pampered boy who did not have the intelligence or common sense to know when or how to wipe his own ass much less run the country. Initially I voted for Al Gore but the Electoral College took care of his demise despite the fact that he won the popular vote … the vote of the people!

Bush has certainly proven me right. During his almost eight years in office he has destroyed our economics, put us horribly in debt, killed thousands of our young people in Iraq and caused the people of the world to despise us. We can't afford to put gas in our cars or even food on the dinner table. Millions of people have lost their jobs. The United States of America is definitely on the verge of destruction!

How do we fix the mess we're in? We need our patriots back or some new patriots need to surface … patriots who care more for the United States of America and its people than they care for personal success, wealth and power. Where are they?
