Gun Control in America

Gun laws in America have become more potent than anyone, including the founding fathers of our nation have ever intended. Three of the most prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigation researchers have supported the decline in gun control due to your right to bear arms stated in the second amendment. In the second amendment your right to bear arms is stated for the reason of protection against other civilians. Bearing arms is a human right and one of the main ones followed throughout the history of our nation.

This right should not be restricted in any way and most definitely should not be to take away your right to own a gun completely. Studies have been shown in both ways in why gun control are good, or for the bad. Criminals will always have a way of receiving weapons whether it would be legally or not. Society does not have that same opportunity, or at least the drive to get a gun so badly to break a law.

In a study done by the FBI in 1992 the FBI released "Killed in the Line of Duty," a three-year study of 51 cases in which 50 offenders killed 54 law enforcement officers. This statistic should enforce gun control and would be a great statistic for the advancement of gun control. Later in the article although, more than half of the guns that the offenders had were purchased illegally. The gun control laws implemented would have no effect on the criminal mischief that is done. The criminals would again, still have the chance and ability to purchase weapons if they had the desire to. The right to bear arms at least makes the playing field level even though you do not ever want to be in the situation to have to use it. Even though that is a fact, your ability to have a gun and protect yourself could make all the difference in the world.

Fully-automatic firearms are legal in most states in the United States but have requirements for registration and restriction under federal law. The National Firearms Act of 1934 required approval of the local police chief and the payment of a $200 tax for initial registration and for each transfer. There have been laws put in place to restrict gun control movement but if you are willing to pay the price you still have the right to buy it which is the way the pioneers of this nation intended. When people like James Madison who is known as the “father of the constitution” wrote the bill of rights with help from other people he intended gun control to never be an issue. If this is roots of our country that we have based our government on we should listen to them for such a large issue like your ability or inability to own and use a gun.

Around the world gun controls law differ from country to country. In Japan, gun control laws are strict. Handgun ownership is strictly prohibited, while ownership of long-barreled firearms such as shotguns and hunting rifles are tightly regulated. All prospective gun owners must go through a lengthy background check to determine whether or not they have a criminal record or a record of mental illness. This is a rule that I could see America going by which in a way would be better for the nation. If only the right people had the way to get a gun it would make it harder, yet still not impossible, for a gun to get in the wrong hands. There will always be a black market for deadly weapons and there is no denying that and America is not trying to refute that.

America should not have to completely deny the right to bear arms or purchase a firearm. There should be restrictions to it and without a doubt a background check in the process of purchasing a gun which there is to an extent today. Your right should never be taken away because you should always have the right to protect yourself in a way that you are being attacked. If criminals are going to have guns regular society should have the same right and opportunity. The greatest minds that made our country is what it has become today have meant for society to have this right and just because there has been issues in recent years that would strengthen the argument for gun control there have been just as many to lessen it they are just not spoke about and portrayed through the media. For an similar example there like the presidential election today, even though it is an even playing field with the democratic and republican nomination races the democratic is by far more spoke about and shown by the media. For whatever reason you would like to think of this is just the way it is and when there is something that anyone will have a listening audience. There will always be someone to entertain them.

I agree that we have the right to have a gun. I own a gun and would not want anyone to take that right from me. However, I disagree with you on two things. I do not think mentally ill persons should be allowed to have a gun. I also think there should be a ban on public sell of assault rifles. It does not take an assault rifle to kill an animal for food or defend against someone trying to harm you. This weapon is dangerous and allows for mass murder with a weapon. Thank you for the great read.
