As we are all aware, the President of the United States can be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors committed while in office. Bill Clinton went through impeachment proceedings for lying to Congress about having an explicit affair with Monika Lewinski.
One would think that Clinton's impeachment proceedings had set a low threshold for the standard of misconduct Americans will tolerate from their president. This is evident by our Congress using the impeachment process for circumstances that in no way endangered national security jeopardized our economy or placed our troops in harms way. As a matter of fact, the actions that President Clinton was accused of were more of a personal/family matter. None-the-less, as our commander and chief, we expect a much higher standard of conduct. President Clinton's actions were both disreputable and unbecoming of the office of the President of the United States. We expect our president to be truthful and take responsibility for their action.
Many people, whether they are Democrat, Republican or Independent, feel that President George W. Bush should face impeachment proceedings for high crimes and misdemeanors he is alleged to have committed while in office.
Invasion of Iraq
During his two terms in office, President Bush is alleged to have coerced subordinates to find evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, evidence of al Qaeda operating in concert with the Iraqi government and that there was an imminent threat of attack against the United States by Iraq. The CIA and other national security agencies complied with President Bush's demand for evidence and provided evidence they knew to be fabricated and/or exaggerated. With this false evidence, President Bush rationalized the invasion of an otherwise sovereign nation.
Failure to Aggressively Pursue Osama Bin Laden
After the attack on the Twin Towers, President Bush appeared to take a lackadaisical approach to the apprehension of Bin Laden. Rather than immediately pursuing Bin Laden, President Bush took an unreasonable amount of time to order troops into Afghanistan. President Bush spent more of his efforts in finding grounds to invade Iraq. When the United States goes to war, it is financed by the World Bank. We are now so deep in debt to the World Bank that we have jeopardized our autonomy as a nation.
Failure to Protect the Borders
After 911, President Bush failed to adequately seal the borders and clamp down on illegal immigration. He intentionally allowed illegal immigration to go unchecked so that workers at the lower end of the economy would constantly be in fear of losing their job. This fear has caused workers to be willing to work for less, work longer and do a better job. The beneficiary of all this fear of financial ruin has substantially benefited big business and led to higher corporate profits.
Failure to Adequately Manage the Economy
While President Bush cannot be held directly accountable for the rise in the price of gas, his preferential treatment to Corporate America, the expense of managing an unnecessary military campaign in Iraq and his failure to react to a sagging economy in a reasonable amount of time has caused the Perfect Storm syndrome.
President George W. Bush has lied so often that we have come to accept the fact that he lies as a regular practice. Because of a weak congress, President Bush has been able to do whatever he pleases with total impunity. He has lowered the standard of the office of the president and he has endangered the economic future of our nation. He has demonstrated a level of arrogance never seen before, not even in former President Richard Nixon. In the words of former President Harry S. Truman, “The buck stops here.” President Bush has been in the driver's seat for the past seven and a half years. In that time, the nation has gone from having a strong economy to the worst economy in many decades. Many people are out of jobs. Our country has been invaded by illegal aliens who have grossly lowered wages and usurped our resources for health care and welfare.
President, George W. Bush has demonstrated such a high level of illegal conduct and gross incompetence that he should be impeached immediately and tried for war crimes against a sovereign nation. He should also be sentences to a term in a federal penitentiary (Leavenworth) for the rest of his natural life. The fact that he only has a few months left in office should not matter.
Remember, if it were you or I that had committed this level of misconduct, we would be behind bars.
