Merciless and Indifferent WAPDA

The public are fed up with the ruthless seasonal adventures of inept WAPDA with impunity. It has reduced millions of innocent children to tears by depriving them of even a wink of sleep. When WAPDA turns off electricity of any area the public anger whips up and there is tirade of abuses against it by the civilians who are made waifs and strays by soaring temperature of scorching summer heat. Vehement protests by the people could not turn a hair of this elephant-skin institution. The Public is at the clemency of the weather to tolerate blazing summer heat and shivering winter cold. Like the Railway and the PIA this department is another white elephant gorging itself on national resources. Unfortunately, it is one of the most corrupt institutions of the country. The custodian of light is itself submerged in darkness of palm greasing and rotten to the core.

This department is trying to widen the spiritual gap between Almighty Allah and even the few people who offer prayers, by driving them away from mosques by switching off electricity at the prayer-times. WAPDA shut down power exactly at 9.00 PM, in various areas of the country, which is the time of post-evening prayers. The people in many mosques kindle candles because of the absence of emergency lights, which suffocate the prayer halls with smoke and mount the already toasting temperature in the roasting summer heat. The heaven would not fall if WAPDA keeps switching on electricity for 4:15-4:45 A.M for Fujar, 1:00-2:00PM for Zuhar, 5:00-5:30PM for Asar, 7:00-7:30PM and 8:45-9:15 for Isha, which are the current times of five prayers in various mosques in this sectarian stricken” Laboratory of Islam” and “Land Of The Pure”.

The whole nation would be extremely gratified to WAPDA to provide tenable duration of only 3 hours out of 24 hours for prayers to the few God fearing people. After dispensing “Hatam Tai generosity”, this ham handed institution would still possess 21 hours' carte blanche for adventurism. It should give an opportunity to virtuous people to pray for the betterment of the country passing through the miserable phases of institutional crisis, and facing the perils of severe energy shortfalls, judicial crisis, educational catastrophes, economic strangulations, venomous corruption, unchecked smuggling, sectarian conflicts, ethnic threats, volatile law and order situation, and moral degradation.

The people having viable grains of unflinching faith in Almighty Allah in this epoch of materialism, selfishness, cut throat competition, spiritual deterioration and moral degeneration should pray for cleansing the Augean Stables of WAPDA, so that corrupt and incompetent officials might be replaced with bolt upright officers who can frame sound policies to liberate the country from the spine-chilling energy crisis, and the public from the burning fetters of insensitive WAPDA in blistering summer heat.

Although, Pakistan is passing through frustrating spell of energy crisis but the available energy should be distributed on the basis of justice and fair play. Are not the WAPDA officials hand in glove with the big industrialists? Are not their officials charging nominal bills from some bloated bigwigs who use heavy Air Conditioners by under the table means? Are not they hand over exorbitant bills to the poor using pedestal and ceiling fans running by fits and starts due to time and again load shedding? Why the public using only fans should foot lavish bills for the unforgivable sin they never committed, and can't afford to commit.

Now WAPDA has become so callous that it does not even bother to inform the public before its reckless action, so that the people may not live peacefully by making alternate arrangements. In the hospitals of the small cities there are not even generators. Can anyone dare to imagine that these grievous patients would pray for WAPDA? The generators fueled from national resources of oil and gas used by the top guns of the country during the load shedding should also be twiddled off, so that they may also enjoy grueling summer heat. The bureaucracy's work is restricted to sign office files, most of the times without reading, therefore they should be given maximum leaves to reduce their electricity expenditure. There is crying need to tap energy resources to fuel power hungry industry and to facilitate the public. If WAPDA cannot fulfill its responsibility, it is necessary to modify its name from “Water and Power Development Authority” to” Water and Power Depriving Authority” so that people may pray to God for reducing temperature instead of protesting against an institution which has turned a deaf year to the public screeches and a blind eye to their woe-begon condition.
