What role does politics play in war? This is a good question, what is a legitimate reason for war
(Such as national defense) and what is "cowboy diplomacy" by politicians with personal agendas?
I believe often the line can get blurred, wars for any reasons are tedious undertakings.
War affects everything, from people to the economy.
President Bush has become famous for his "cowboy diplomacy." While he sends our troops to die in foreign lands, he vigorously defends this in the name of "democracy and freedom." He may well have good intentions but everyone knows the old adage "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." I am mostly criticizing, not his motives, but his tactics.
I am fully aware that we have freed the Iraqi people from under the tyranny of Saddam, but now it is time that we let the people of that country take care of themselves and withdraw our troops.
While it is honorable to strive for democracy and freedom, we Americans cannot police the whole world. At one point recently I compared America to Ancient Rome.
Is it truly that we want freedom for the world as we say, or is it American vanity that pushes us to police the world with an Iron hand? I sometimes wonder. If, our motives are pure as we say, then it's all good and fine, if however it is arrogance and vanity that drives our country, it will come back to bite us.
My mother is of the opinion that we Americans should pull our troops out of all the foreign countries they're in. She said
"We really have no business there, there's widows and widowers being left here at home needlessly." I agree and I say to Bush, bring our men and women home Now! Don't put it off for the upcoming president to deal with, take the responsibility that is your obligation and duty as commander-in-chief.
