“Our” children in this day and age are far more protective, susceptible and mysterious when it comes to their ideas, friends, feelings and social activities.
Society has sometimes labeled these natural instincts and behaviors as “abnormal,” “imperfect” and on occasion “psychotic.”
Schools are just as much to blame as the next person. When children act differently or seems to use certain behaviors other than the “norm,” it is automatically assumed that the problem child has some type of attention deficit disorder or is hyperactive.
Rather, an extensive family and social environment check should be conducted to locate the actual source of the child's trouble.
Somewhere down the road these kids are then placed on some kind of drug such as Ritalin, which I personally consider an expensive babysitter - another cheap way for society to keep a tight leash on children.
And we want to know why kids today use drugs. It's because adults placed them on drugs to teach them how to cope with their emotions and behaviors. Ritalin is a perfect example.
Children learn from their elders. Our children have far too many rules and laws to follow, and adults' expectations are excessively high.
Society needs to take a few chill pills and quit pressuring these kids into performing responsibilities sooner then they're ready,.
All children deserve a chance to be heard, not just seen. They, too, have a right to free speech.
Our children wear baggy clothing; have crazy hairstyles, tattoos and too many piercings. So what? Clothing does not make the child.
Society seriously needs to lighten up and stop pointing fingers, when we are the makers of theses end product(s). Adults in today's chaotic society have an old saying: “Do what I say, not as I do.”
No wonder these children remain silent. They are afraid of being prejudged.
Adults need to slow down their busy lifestyles and intervene with their children. Have you ever stopped and thought that your child maybe crying out to you, by, for example, wearing what you believe is outlandish clothing?
Yes, children are selfish, self-centered and rebellious from time to time, and yes, they are full of attitudes - why wouldn't they be? They have experienced teachers.
Children need to have a sense of belonging or purpose. If they cannot obtain this from their family, they will seek other means, with or without our permission.
It's not about peer pressure. Whether we like it or not, children have brains of their own and they do know how to use them.
A young child who grows up in a violent environment learns that hitting is a logical solution to solving problems.
So are we desensitized to mass murder?
In my opinion, no. Society is too beleaguered by its own self-righteousness, ignorance and denial.
Society has, without a doubt, created the new generation and the only ones to blame for this generation is society and society alone.
Godwin stated that “these individuals appear to have no conscious thought of the consequences of their behavior” and that “those who kill are out of control or mentally ill to the point where they cannot comprehend or relate to pain they inflict on someone else.”
My opinion is that if these individuals can consciously select a location and target and choose their weapon, then they're very conscious of what they are doing and what the consequences are for their behavior.
I'll bet anyone that these individuals understand pain and suffering more than you and I could ever imagine.
Society has hurt them in some shape or form, so they feel that society needs to be paid back. These people are indeed ill, but not in the common sense. The destruction these individuals are capable of creating is not entirely their fault. What they achieve and perceive is justifiable in their minds.
Remember, both adults and children will do anything to gain attention, even if it is negative.
This “new mass murder epidemic,” as the writer so inelegantly put it, is not some sort of plague. It will not run it's course, then die off like a disease. It isn't that simple.
