Should English Be the Official Language of the US?

An immediate change is needed.

In our own Country, when making phone calls to the majority of Companies, we must press 1 for English.

This is not a Country that has recently merged with another Country of foreign speakers. The 50 states of America has been a Country (The U.S.A.) for hundreds of years, and we have known no other Language in this Country.

So, why, I ask you… is there a need for “Press 1 for English”?

Once a representative does come on the line to answer your questions, you guessed it…. Not an American. You will have to repeat yourself many times to get the barely-English-speaking individual to understand what you are saying. And needless to say, you will have to ask them to repeat themselves numerous times. And the majority of the time, people complain because their issues were never resolved (when calling support).

When Americans are ill or injured and must rush to the local Emergency Room, guess who will be your Doctor? Not an American, and not someone you can understand. But in fact, you will have to ask the nurse to please translate for you what the foreign speaking, bad English gentleman just said.

Each time you receive calls from “Unknown” or “Restricted”, guess who is on the other end of the line? A poor-English-speaking telemarketer. These are companies that most would not purchase from when they were all American. Why do they think that having foreigners making the call would increase the chances?

The answer is because our Government has allowed foreigners to not only move into our Country, but they are also enforcing their every demand.

Yes, there need to be changes made in the Great U.S.A. And this needs to be one of them.

It is quite obvious from your articles that you are a jackass !
Some comments:
- The USA has not been around for hundreds of years, only 236 years to be exact...
- Yes, you have merged with other foreign speakers; Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, most of the Southwest was Mexican territory including California, Utah, Montana, New Mexico that the US annexed...
- The reason why you will see a doctor that is not American is obvious; you are a nation of C- grade students, that is why you have to attract highly educated immigrants..
AND the final word; do you know who represented the US last year in the international English spelling competition? Let me enlighten you; 7 competitors, all of Asian origin.....hee, hee, hee....that is because you C grade students can't spell the ONE bastardized version of English that you speak...

So, like I said, you are an American jackass and dumbass.....

This should have been in effect a long time ago.
And anyone who would say that we are a nation of C-grade people, is either Not an American, or the next Lee Harvey Oswald.....

I hate it when I call a government office, with a recording and they say, "Please press 1 for ENGLISH"

It's down right unAmerican.

This needs to change.

Yes it should remain the only language. We migrated here in the early30's and my family had to adapt, just like everyother family has.

that's a small price we paid for freedom. I wouldn't have it anyother way

Hey Jane! You could embrace your multiculturalisim and move to Europe! Europeans have a much wider variety if languages to speak and conduct GOVERNMENT AND STATE business in. What people like you fail to understand is that most americans, THE CITIZENS AND LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, are upset because millions of foreigners have BROKEN INTO our country, and staged massive \"demonstrations\" demanding citizenship and equal rights while waving flags of other nations. AMERICAN CULTURE, while not valued by big business, multiculturalists, and politicians, means a lot more than a lapel pin to the average hardworking american, even first generation immigrants. It is impossible to preserve our national identity and culture when the newest \"immigrants\" are not required to assimilate. By the way, It is difficult to get A\'s in English when you are unable to speak it!
