Should Same-sex Marriage be Legal?

There are many views that are generated about same-sex partners and their marriages. There is a big problem that people have with same same-sex marriages compared to that of heterosexual marriages.

This topic may seem straight up as to why not to let same-sex couples marry, but are they really just as similar to heterosexual couples? The current issue is why same-sex couples should not be allowed to marry according to the statistics of what we have in the United States, and then why same-sex marriages should not be allowed.

There are between 1 and 9 million children being raised by gay, lesbian, and bisexual parents. According to these same sex partners, they want to have what any other heterosexual has and that is rights. Same sex partners claim that they want to have that safety net that heterosexual married couples have for their kids that unmarried couples do not have (2006, p. 285). One out of three lesbian couples and one out of five gay male couples are raising children, and so they want these benefits that heterosexual couples have.

Within the gay movement itself there is always a movement that is trying to get gays equal rights in marriage, according to Chauncey. This issue is then looked down on in a negative like manner based on the AIDS and gay parenting that took place in the late 1900's (2004). This was done then and is still continuing to be done now. Adults look at gay parenting in a bad manner and stray away from them or give negative looks. This could be that they don't understand gay people thinking that they want to harm the kids or just do not like them.

A big issue right now is in public schools across the United States with bullying. You hear about kids killing themselves, bringing a knife or gun to school, or killing someone that was bullying them. So what would happen to a great kid that was adopted by a gay couple while still in their adolescents? A bully could focus on that kid even though he is adopted, and it is not his fault. He could be made fun of so bad that he could kill himself, or even worse take a gun to school and go on a deadly rampage.

According to “Same Sex Marriage and Equality,” the majority of the population in the United States does not support same-sex marriages, but are winning the acceptance and still gaining more (2005). But if this is the case with same-sex marriages, what is going to happen next? Right now in the United States there are families that are polygamists. If same-sex marriage would be allowed, then people will start to fight for polygamy, and then something else. More people would see polygamy as being better for children than a gay couple. In polygamy, there would be more people to help the kid(s) out if they have problems, and also there would be a greater chance of being there more for them than in a traditional two parent system.

Gay and/or lesbian couples may be getting acceptance, but this may be from anything, such as people are getting tired of hearing them complain about getting equal rights. They keep saying that they want equal rights, but if they are adopting children, what is equal in the eyes of society to those kids, they may feel like they got screwed in life. Also gay men can not do certain things, like the rest of people that they want to be equal to, like give blood/plasma because he is at a greater risk for AIDS. Gays and lesbians want equality but are not even giving it to themselves.

There are many things that are to be considered when letting something happen. People need to consider what all the possibilities are that are or could be associated with a decision. In same-sex marriage, one of these possible problems is the kids that they are raising or want. Another is the diseases that put them at a higher risk of getting because of their sexual ways. These are some of the reasons why same-sex marriages should not be allowed in the United States.

Blade, I respect your view but you have no idea what you are talking about...

In my genders studies class, we've been discussing this issue repeatedly and you really need to redo your homework man. Any of those problems that you say could come with a homosexual marriage is already a problem in heterosexual marriages. It happens, whether your partner is your same sex or not.
