Should the Government Censor the Web?

In my opinion I Say no.

Inappropriate materials are found on the web each day. It has been argued that the government should set up censorship on websites. However, the government should not censor the WWW. First of all, limiting the access of the Internet is unconstitutional. Second, censoring material on the web is a nearly impossible task. Lastly, the information exposed to children should be the parents' responsibility

I believe censorship of the Internet is unconstitutional. The Internet is the best source of people expressing their opinions and facts. Corn-Revere once made-known, “'on-line systems give people for more genuinely free speech and free press than ever before in human history.'” In fact, “Freedom of speech” or “Freedom of press” is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. For these reasons, censorship of the Internet is illegal.

There is absolutely no doubt, censorship of the web would be a challenging task to the government. Moreover, it would be costly. According to an on-line forum, answerbag.com, a posting answering the question, “How many websites are on the Internet?” posted on July 15, 2003 at 5:18 PM stated, “You cannot expect answer for the number changes about every hour.” If this is true, then the government would have to invest large amounts of manpower and time. In addition, all the other countries need to support this issue.

In my opinion, information revealed to children should be the parents' responsibility. Although some of the Internet websites can be harmful to children, the parents' should be the ones to keep them away from websites. This is because the government cannot prevent people to gongoozle the web. Even if the Internet has censorship the problem would yet to be solved. In addition, the websites that give unfavorable examples are also known in other media. The TV, for example, comprises mountains of motion pictures that consist of dangerous examples such as the use of drugs and murder. Furthermore, magazines can scar a life. Magazines can recreate how a person acts or feels. For example, if a plump female glances at a beautiful picture of an extremely skinny celebrity the girl may become anorexic. For this reason, parents should be responsible to keep their children pure.

As you can see, the government should not obstruct you, me or anyone from the World Wide Web. Again, preventing the usage of the Internet is unconstitutional. Similarly, censorship of the web is a difficult mountain to climb. Finally, the information, revealed to children, should be the parents' responsibility.

I agree with this arguement because it is, in fact, illegal to censor the web. Also it would not be right if the US censored the web and N. Korea, for example, didn't agree with this.

OK, i dont agree with your argument at all, you say it should be the parents responsibility for there children being exposed to bad things, well you are wrong buddy the kids are just being harmless just going on the internet and all of a sudden a picture of a naked lady comes up. That picture will be stuck in their minds for weeks and they wont stop thinking about it! Adults should not be looking at pornography anyways so they need to censor that crap and make the internet a much better place because my definition of the internet is Hell, it really is just full of junk!! sure it has good information on it and helpful things, but it has gone way too far now! and they need to filter out the crap on here before it gets much worse. end of story, i dont agree with you guys who say it should not be censored.

Your claims are good, to a point, but the way in which they are presented is terrible. It's a good premise, but the idea is muted by the obtuse language and phrasing.

i think that everything you are saying is true..comming from a young person myself i feel that if a parent does allow there child to go on the computer they should be well aware of what type of websites they are going on and in this point in time the thought of them seeing a naked women probably wont be stuck in there head because every child knows about that kind of stuff if the parent knows about it or not!

Also i think that they should not censor the website because they censor certain sites at school so why shouldnt that person who is going to school not being able to go on certain websites be able to go on there own computer at there home and go on those types of websites????
Like wow your child might see a naked women pop up on the screen but at the same time they might see that all the time when there watching t.v.
you have children who are watching movies that are pg 13 when there rating should actually be rated R.
you have children who when u look at them watching t.v seem so happy because its a good show but when a comercial comes on theres people killing each other and blowing people up!
so why censor the web when everything you see on the web you see in your everday life??

Ok. So I completely agree with you. The government shouldn\'t censor the web. If anything, they should be censoring things on tv. They censor certain things on tv and on the radio but there are sexual gestures or references in just about every show on tv. For goodness sakes they found a way to attack the teletubbies. Its a kids show and they found some way for it to be sexual. I really don\'t think they need to censor the internet. If a child is old enough to be on it, then they should be old enough to know what they shouldn\'t be on.
