The Average American Citizen

The time for apathy is quickly fading. With every day it becomes more evident that trouble looms on the horizon for Americans. But what can we do?

The government’s bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is no small matter.  The American people have effectively lost a little bit more freedom and the financial stability of the country has just taken another major hit.  But what can anybody do about it?

There are some simple things the average citizen can do to make a change.  In fact, the only way real change will come is if the American people start doing something about what’s going on.  You don’t have to run for President.  Here are some simple things you can do that will change your life and could even change the nation:

1. Personally stop relying on the government.  Do the hard work that it takes to support yourself, rely on your family and be willing to help your extended family, and plan for the future so you won't need assistance when you're too old to work or have unexpected difficulties.

2. Seek honest politicians.  Find ones that don't change based on what is popular or what they think will get them elected.  If you check into congress voting records, you don't have to look far to find inconsistencies in most presidential candidates.  You might not vote for someone who wins but you will never regret who you voted for.

3. Voice your opinions.  Let people know what you think in whatever way is available, even if your opinions aren’t popular.  More importantly, let your representatives know what you think.  Legally, you are their employer and you have an obligation to let them know what you want.

4. Live an honest life yourself.  The problems we are facing aren’t solely the government’s fault.  Corruption creeps in when people are being selfish and immoral.  The government can only be held to higher morals when the people generally are living higher morals.

Government by the people, for the people begins with the people.  If things in America aren’t going the way they should, you personally need to look at your own life and make changes.  Only when American citizens have stopped blaming others and start making the hard changes themselves, will they be able to take control again of their destiny.

The average American citizen is too busy working overtime or an extra job just to keep up, out shopping at the mall, or watching TV, to do anything at all about bigger problems.
