The Enemy is Already Here

For months now, President Bush has been repeating the idea that if we pull our troops out of Iraq the enemy will follow us home. Apparently Mr. Bush has not read the recent study released by the New York Police Department that shows our enemy is already here.

A recent report by the NYPD shows that the enemy is already here, waiting and plotting. The 90-page report is titled Radicalization in the West: The Homegrown Threat.

This report notes that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and European authorities have thwarted several terrorist plots since the massive attack on America by the al Qaeda terrorist organization on 9/11. Eleven cases from the past six years were analyzed as part of the process used to dissect the development of “homegrown” terrorists. At least 25 Muslim terrorist cells have been identified in the Northeastern part of the country, according to the report, especially in New Jersey and New York.

The New York police report added that these are cells of homegrown terrorists without a high profile and that the groups are a serious threat to the safety of Americans. If that isn't proof enough that our enemy is already in our backyards plotting to attack us then I guess we've already forgotten about the post 9/11 anthrax attacks on U.S. Senators on September 18, 2001, and Richard Reid the shoe bomber, and the Brooklyn Bridge plot, and the Toronto Bomb plot, and the plot to blow up ten airplanes arriving in the U.S., and the plot to attack soldiers stationed at Fort Dix.

The fact is the number of domestic terrorist acts in the past five years far outweighs the number of international acts. So we see that democracy by itself does not reduce terrorism, a rule that should have been observed prior to forcing democracy down the throats of Iraqis. I would remind Mr. Bush that a weapon of mass destruction - a sodium-cyanide bomb - capable of killing thousands of American citizens was uncovered in Tyler, Texas, December 2003.

Along with the bomb, a half-million rounds of ammunition, hundreds of explosives, and dozens of illegal weapons were found. It all belonged to a hate group. The Southern Poverty Law Center says there are now more than 800 hate groups with 30,000 members and 250,000 sympathizers in the U.S.

Do not be bullied by Mr. Bush's rhetoric of “the enemy will follow us home.” The enemy is here in America in all colors of hate. Don't listen to fear-mongering rhetoric by anyone. Use common sense.
