It is hard to believe Election Day is almost upon us. So far, Senator Obama seems to be ahead of Senator McCain in most polls, but it is still anybody’s election.
This is the most historic presidential election the United States has ever witnessed. It is full of many firsts, such as…
First African-American Candidate
Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill) became the first-ever African-American to run for President of the United States.
First Female to Run for President
Before dropping out of the campaigning, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) became the first woman to run for President.
First Female Republican to Run for Vice President
Governor Sarah Palin, of Alaska, became the first woman on the Republican side to run for Vice Presidency. The last woman to run for the position was Geraldine Ferraro (D-NY) back in 1984.
Other Historic Firsts
Never before in an American election have two sitting senators campaigned against one another.
Both candidates were born outside the contiguous forty-eight states. Senator Obama was born in Hawaii. Senator McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone.
If the Republican Party wins, John McCain will be the nation’s oldest president, while Sarah Palin becomes the first female Vice President.
If the Democrats win, Barack Obama will be the first African-American president, while Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) will be the first Roman Catholic Vice President.
