Is Jimmy Carter the worst ex-president in United States history? His administration was riddled with failure and ended with an embarrassing bid for re-election in 1980. Is this man just bitter about only winning four states as an incumbent presidential candidate? Since the American people booted him out of office he has worked tirelessly to undermine the efforts of every Republican President since and has succeeded in helping to erode the credibility of our nation. His track record since that time has been dismal as well.
Friends in Low Places
In 1990, Carter supported former communist dictator, Daniel Ortega, in an attempt to discredit the Reagan-Bush support for the Contra opposition. Ortega lost the election but vowed to govern from below in an attempt to sabotage pro-American free market reforms.
Carter met with Kim Il Sung of North Korea in the mid-90s and agreed to supply the dictatorship with two nuclear reactors in return for the halting of its nuclear weapons program. North Korea has since developed nuclear weapons. When exit polls indicated fraud in Venezuelan elections in 2004, Carter immediately went to the aid of President Hugo Chavez, a man who has consistently shown no regard for democratic principles and human rights. In his early revolutionary days, Chavez noted that “once in power we will never relinquish it.” In 2004 the Chavez government did everything in its power to influence the election results which Carter then affirmed and legitimized. Since his rise to power in 1998, Chavez has repeatedly denounced the United States and aligned himself with such notable figures as Fidel Castro, Vladimir Putin, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Saddam Hussein, and Kim Jung Il.
The list goes on as former President Carter continues to hold meetings with terrorists, dictators, and communist leaders. He has met with Fidel Castro of Cuba, leaders of Nepal's Maoist Rebels, Kim Il Sung of North Korea, and now plans on meeting with exiled Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal. Carter has also been a frequent critic of Israel, England, and American policies abroad.
Party Politics?
In fact, the Democratic Party seems to have an unusual affection for terrorists, communists, and socialists. President Bill Clinton massaged relations with China throughout his presidency by allowing sensitive technology transfers that will endanger Americans for decades to come in exchange for Chinese campaign contributions to the Democratic National Committee. Clinton also rejected offers by Sudan that would have resulted in capture of Osama Bin Laden after the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and prior to the 9-11 attacks. When Saddam Hussein consistently obstructed UN weapons inspections, the Clinton Administration did little to rectify the situation and allowed the Iraqi government to proceed without weapons monitoring for several years.
Obama
Now we have Barack Obama's friendship with terrorist William Ayers, his implied support for the anti-American remarks of Reverend Wright, and his offering to meet with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while Iran continues to destabilize Iraqi security and contribute to American military casualties. Although Obama has expressed opposition to Carter's plans to meet with Mashaal, his reasoning is sketchy. Senator Obama's reasons for not supporting the meeting are based on Hamas refusal to renounce terrorism or recognize Israeli statehood. Why doesn't this same standard apply to Ahmadinejad who has publicly called for the eradication of Israel and annihilation of Zionism. It seems former President Carter has a new disciple in Barack Obama. If Senator Obama is elected to the presidency in November, perhaps next spring Osama Bin laden will be invited to tea at the White House.
