Energy and the Confused Lawmakers That Dictate Policy

Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the house, did not know natural gas was refined from oil. Yet she is voting on energy policy.

Many people look to the US government to help develop an energy policy. There is growing fear of raising fuel costs, man-made global warming, and the increased dependence on foreign oil.

The Democratic speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi seems to be very confused on the source of natural gas of which she is a strong supporter of. On Saturday 23AUG08 she appeared on “Meet the Press” and stated her support of natural gas to rid us from fossil fuels. She states “I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels,” and at another time she stated natural gas “is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels.”

Well Nancy, perhaps in the month you had off from Congress (you remember when some of the republicans were trying to discuss the energy policy and you refused to call the house back in session); you could have watched the Modern Marvels episode on oil refining. Natural Gas is refined from oil! Just because it says natural in the name does not mean it is not produced by the "evil" oil companies from fossil fuels.

It really scares me that these people are in Washington trying to debate an energy policy when they do not even know the very basics of energy production. When politicians are stating they want to rid the world of oil, do they realize that jet fuel, plastics, mineral oil, baby lotion, suntan lotion, lipstick and many other products are made from oil? What are we expected to fly planes on, solar?
