Well intrigued by the story I hung in for more. They proceeded to show an Iraqi man who had his face blurred for protection. He had what looked like a 2 inch wide heavy duty hose tapped into an oil station tank. Then he was explaining and demonstrating how he siphons the gas from the tank into his homemade tank trunk. And the news reporter implied that he then takes this to the "booming" Iraqi-an black market to sell.
OK really why do the media and Governments treat the public like we are retarded and/or just totally oblivious and completely without an ounce of sense?
Think about this. The Hussein ruled country did not or could maximize the financial potential of the oil underneath them. OK that I will say is possible to believe. But now you have the US and Britain showing them and helping them learn. Now suddenly Iraqi land pirates have literally tapped into $5 billion worth of oil revenue with hoses and pick up trucks?
Okay I am sure their are some "entrepreneurs" who may tap a few hundred gallons but do you realize how absurd it is to think that is the cause of the missing $5 billion?
Let's say that a barrel of oil is worth $100. Which on 3/19/08 it started at $104 on the open legal market. So I am being extremely generous to suggest you could siphon a barrel and get $100 for it. But let's say you could. You have to siphon 50,000,000 barrels to get $5 billion!
So in a 30 day month you have to siphon 1, 666,666.6 barrels a day to close in on the 50,000,000 barrel target. That is 69,444 barrels per hour!
Now as if this isn't ridiculous enough consider that the concept of siphoning or stealing is supposed to be inconspicuous. How do siphon 70,000 barrels of oil per hour without anyone catching somebody? And did the media have no problem finding the one they filmed? And why wasn't anyone stopping him? Think about that the next time you fork over $3 PLUS per gallon at the pump.
So who really is getting this windfall? Who do you think? Let me see I will give you a few possible culprits. Great Britain, the United States and Iraqi corrupt politicians for starters! Actually there is no doubt. This is a situation that has corruption engraved in it.
Yes I know there are a few hardliners out there saying "my government officials would never steal from me or deceive me." That probably is a beautiful fantasy world you live in my friend.
This is so obvious and yet we bend over and take it like we deserve it. And no I am not singling out the US politicians. Everyone with their foot in Iraq has their hand out. You can bet on that.
