They were always buried right beneath our feet, the treasures of rebuilding. We were bred with the knowledge that we had no choice but to do as we were told. But beneath all the rubble of self-denial and begrudged acceptance we began to dig up something that just may have been the biggest discovery of our times. We have knowledge, we have ideas, we have thoughts. We no longer must be the ones that are to be kept quite in the corner. We no longer must stand with our chins up as we are dashed upon the rocks of his supremacy. We are strong and we can hold our own. So, these treasures are ours now and finally, after all these years, we may begin to learn how to wield them as weapons. We, after so long a journey, have only now begun to use what voice was given to us decades ago. We can not stand down anymore. We have the opportunity to take the reins back from idiotic retaliation to hand it over to a new collective power.
Who will we allow to speak for us? Who can we entrust this power to? We stand aside and say that it is not about gender. But, is it not? Can we actually convince ourselves that the best proponent for our cause would be that of the opposite gender? If we were to turn and gaze at the journey that has brought our sisters out of the bondage of the lesser gender we will surely see that the battle has been long fought by those who held the abuse closest, by those who knew what it was to be called secondary. It was fought by those who have heard slanders we can only hope not to endure again. Do we not long to hear a voice that holds the timbre of having risen above the kitchen range?
To hear the name of a sister in reference to the leader of this nation we have demanded be molded to our needs as well. We were fed up with keeping silent watch as our neighbors suffered tragedy, while our children suffered abuse and negligence, while our sisters were raped and depleted of their vitality with no reprieve in sight. So, we stood long and hard. We fought little by little, one right at a time, and are fighting still in wars that should have been won long ago. But, still we are strong and we have proven ourselves. So, why, after so much time fought, after so many battles won, why are we throwing our hands up in surrender now? And not just surrender, for that would be tragedy enough. But, in complete brainwashed allegiance to something we have fought against for so long. If now is not the time then when , I ask you, will the time be?
