FISA? Gun Control? Death Penalty? NAFTA? Iraq? What is Barack Obama doing? He is trying to win an election and he can’t do it by addressing every single “complaint” by his own core supporters. It’s as if the idea of being spoiled has reached a whole new level. Yes, you brought him here and he should acknowledge you needs. However, shouldn’t you be a little more understanding and allow more wiggle room for the guy who inspired you all?
If you are an Obama supporter who understands how general elections are won; I'm not talking to you. If you are an Obama supporter who understands that he can make mistakes occasionally; I'm not talking to you. However, if you are an Obama supporter who believes that he is the second coming of Jesus Christ; I'm talking to you. If you are an Obama supporter who believes that he shouldn't act like a politician; I'm talking to you. And finally, if you are an Obama supporter who is still in “primary mode” and doesn't understand that general elections are won in the middle; than I'm talking to you.
If change is what you want, than change is what you will get with Barack Obama. But change doesn't happen overnight. The revolutionary war was not won overnight. The U.S. Constitution was not created overnight. Both World Wars was not won overnight. Martin Luther King didn't help the civil rights movement overnight. And Barack Obama will not completely change this country overnight.
You should be more sympathetic when you see Obama playing politics. He has too. I don't care who you are, you must act like a politician to win the general election in 2008. People in general can be easily swayed; therefore the game of politics has to be played in some shape or form in order to keep up. Maybe in 2060, playing politics won't be essential to winning an election, but as of now, politics has yet to evolve in such a way. Especially on the big stage.
I read an interesting article a few days ago. Arianna Huffington, who I believe is brilliant, expressed her feelings as to why moving to the center is for losers. She made her argument by saying that it failed for Hillary, Kerry, and Gore. I must disagree. Gore lost in a rigged election. Not to mention that he lost his own state, which probably didn't help. Kerry couldn't compete with a strong on terror Bush, which is allegedly why Hillary didn't want to risk a presidential run in 2004. Although the republicans misleading the country on his military record and a Bin Laden video didn't score him any points either. And Hillary had much bigger issues besides moving to the center. Arrogance? Mismanagement? Too negative? The list could go on and on. The point being is that you can't win the general election without reaching for the middle.
Barack Obama must be allowed to make mistakes. And when he does, don't automatically cast him away. He himself has said it numerous of times that he is not perfect and that you won't agree with him on everything. Yet, you pretend like you never heard those words and place him in a very awkward position. Let's be honest with each other, you won't vote for McCain. Not voting at all means you don't matter. And voting for a third party candidate is pointless as neither has a chance of winning. So what can you do? Voice your opinion in a non-demanding fashion and keep moving. Trying to “jam up” your candidate in a tight race is not the way to go about it. (Since when is FISA, gun control and the death penalty the sole reasons you voted for Obama?)
Remember, don't confuse inspiring with perfection. Change with instantaneous. Just because Obama restores your faith in Washington, doesn't mean he has to walk & talk a clean, perfect, and flawless line. If you expect that than you don't want Obama, you want a God. Unlike some people, I don't believe you guys are hypnotized by Obama. I also don't believe you drink the Kool-Aid. I believe you all are just inspired by Senator Barack Obama, and drink Hawaiian Punch that could get easily mistaken for the Kool-Aid.
