John McCain is jumping on the opportunity, as Barack Obama is taking a break from the campaign trail.

McCain wants to make a distinction between himself and Obama. McCain seems to be taking a tough stance on the crisis in Georgia." Russia should immediately and unconditionally cease its military operations and withdraw all forces from sovereign Georgian territory", the Arizona Senator said last Friday. The Republican nominee made an unusual campaign stop last week at a rally for motorcycle enthusiasts.

McCain has been campaigning in support of an unpopular war, an un popular President, and an unpopular party. However, there is the possibility that the gas crisis could get him elected. He has found a common cause with the American people, on the rising gas prices. The Republican nominee aired a "Celebrity ad" featuring Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, that seems to have struck a nerve in Barack Obama, rebuilding his claim that Obama is more than a celebrity, like the blonde hotel heiress.

The Democratic Nominee for weeks has been using evey chance to tie McCain to the unpopular President Bush. The Obama campaign responded to McCain's"Celebrity ad" by airing "Embrace", which ties McCain to Bush. The ad is designed for voters to have a choice between Obama, who stands for change, and McCain who favors " the status quo"

Last Month, an ABC News post showed Obama and McCain were equally trusted to handle International affairs, but McCain had the edge on handling the Georgia-Russia crisis.

John Edwards, the former Democratic Presidential Candidate admits to an "extramarital affair" last Friday, but said that he did not father a child out of wedlock.

"In 2006, i made a serious error in my judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs", Mr Edwards said. In an interview he said he lied repeatedly, about the affair with a 44year old woman while his wife struggled with cancer.

He lost a prime-time speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention, he likely blew a chance at a possible cabinet post in Barack Obama Administration.

"Edwards infidelity to his cancer stricken wife and the lies leading up to his confession, have sent him into the political wilderness. It has delayed if not destroyed any chance of regaining a place on the political stage", according to ABC News.

President Bush has already lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling, and has challenged Congress to also lift the ban, "aiming to turn the enormous public frustration about gasoline prices into political leverage", said Bush. Democratic law makers rejected Bush's plan as a symbolic stunt.Bush said Failure to act is unacceptable, it's unacceptable to me and it's unacceptable to the American people".

Republicans in congress say they are prepared to vote against resolution to fund the federal government for the 2009 Fiscal Year, unless Democrats agree to end the 27 year ban on offshore drilling.

What's next now for John McCain and Barack Obama?

The Democratic National Convention will be held on August 25th to the 28th in Denver and the Republican National Convention will be held on September 1st to the 4th in Minneapolis, stay tuned.
