Sarah Palin Reignites Culture Wars

Palin is being called a "heroine", but is she experienced enough to be described this way?

“The culture wars are making a sudden and unexpected encore in American politics, turning more ferocious virtually by the hour as activists on both sides of the ideological divide react to the addition of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket”. This was the headline of a recent Yahoo! article. In other words, it is saying that people have strong opinions about how conservative Palin is and whether she can get the job done after less than 2 years as Alaska governor. After all, she only took office on December 4, 2006. This stint, of less than 2 years is shorter than Obama's Congressional stint, which he assumed on January 4, 2005.

How conservative is Palin? Will her inexperience hurt McCain? These are 2 of the many questions that we should be scratching our heads over. However, the McCain-Palin ticket seems to have plenty of support. Former Tennessee Fred Thompson, who now appears regularly on NBC drama “Law and Order” slammed Obama over Obama's pro-abortion stance: “We need a president who doesn't think that the protection of the unborn or a newborn baby is above his pay grade”. This was in response to Obama's answer to pastor Rick Warren when Obama said that the question of when life begins “is above my pay grade”, perhaps implying that Obama is too important to make decisions on abortion.

Palin does seem to be a genuine conservative, however. For example, she opposes abortion, even when she got pregnant with a baby who was to be born with Down's Syndrome and she supports gun ownership as Palin is an avid hunter. However, this article also claims that she is “a new heroine of social conservatives”, but she doesn't have enough experience to be described like that.
