Senator Hillary Clinton's Last Stand?

As the days of the Democratic nominating process, continues to move toward the finish line, it is very sad to see Senator Clinton, trying along with her husband, to change the rules of the game, in any way that she can, so that she can then claim the mantle of winner. They have put forth so many arguments, to show that she is the best candidate to face Senator John McCain, in November for the General election. She says that she has won the larger states needed for the election, that she has the most popular votes, that she has won the states, which have the most electoral votes, and on and on. The problem with all her arguments, is that, she assumes that in the General election, the Democratic nominee would not win New York, California or Pennsylvania, which is not necessarily true. Does anyone believe that New York would turn into a red state, in November? The only way she would have more of the popular votes, is if you count Michigan, where her name was the only one on the ballot, and leave off all the caucus states, popular votes that Senator Obama won, and if you do not give Obama any of the popular vote in Michigan. Finally, the electoral votes are counted in the General election, not in the Primary election. So none of her assertions, are completely true, she is making false assumptions, which do not present an accurate picture.

Senator Clinton came into this primary race, with the belief that she was absolutely going to win the nomination, as some have said, she thought she had, some sort of entitlement to the nomination. It appears that some people did not have that same thought. Senator Obama, only needs some 46 delegates, to claim the right to be called the democratic nominee. It has been reported that, there are 50 delegates, in the House of Representatives, lead by House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who are ready to go to the side of Senator Obama, if it appears that this will not be over on Tuesday of next week, when the states of Montana and South Dakota, hold the final primaries of the process. This would give Senator Obama the needed 2,026 delegate count, for the nomination. Speaker Pelosi has said, that the contest will not go, until the convention in August, as some have predicted, and as it appears that Hillary Clinton is trying to do. It is cynical to imagine, but it would seem, as though she knows, she is not going to win the nomination, but if she takes it to the convention, that takes away time from Senator Obama, needs to compete against Senator McCain, and therefore, Senator McCain would win the presidency, much like Ronald Reagan did in 1980, against Jimmy Carter, when Ted Kennedy, did the same thing Senator Clinton is possibly aiming for. This would mean she would be ready to compete in 2012, for the presidency. Who knows? She is hanging on for some reason.

Speaker Pelosi, is leaning on the Super delegates, to make up their minds, and choose a candidate. Senator Clinton, should know at this time, that she does not have the necessary delegates, to win the race for the nomination. But Speaker Pelosi, wants to end this in two weeks, and so do a lot of other Democrats.

So with Senator Obama, having won the most states, 37 to Senator Clinton’s 16, he has won more delegates, he leads by about 140, he has raised more money, Senator Clinton’s campaign is said to be over twenty million dollars in debt. You should, I would think, look at how a person has run a campaign, as being some indicator, as to how that person, would handle the country’s budget. If they can’t run an efficient campaign and wind up, deep in debt, that would not appear to be, a good sign for the future sense of responsibility, of that individual, in governing the country, we are already about 9 trillion dollars in debt.

This entire process should wind down on Tuesday evening, of next week, or early Wednesday morning, with Senator Obama, having what is needed to declare victory. It’s been a long and winding road, perhaps, just perhaps, thanks to Speaker Pelosi, taking on Senator Clinton, we will bring this all to a sensible end. Let’s hope, as Senator Obama has said, yes we can.
