Tell Congress to Get Back to Work

Is Roger Clemens and doping in baseball really a matter for the United States Congress?

Is Congress operating in an Alternate Universe-or is it me? By what stretch of the human imagination is the United States Congress mandated to determine whether or not Roger Clemens doped? This is an employer and employee issue. The whole point seems to be to get Mr. Clemens or his accuser to perjurer themselves-so they can bring a contempt of Congress charge. To what end? Will this solve doping in professional sports. No. But it is an amazingly effective smoke screen.

It keeps Congress in the eye of the American Public in an election year, looking as though they are safeguarding us from something. And the star quality of Roger Clemens---that's an added bonus. Congress needs a bullshit monitor---some unelected official to call “bullshit” and send our Congress back to the work we hired them for. Let's help our veterans, let's fix the economy, let's get folks out of FEMA trailers, let's provide medical to every American, let's get serious about alternative fuels and stopping our dependency on foreign oil. With real problems to solve, how on earth does this get any play, let alone rise to the top?
