Barack Obama's victory in the Presidential Election has caused a backlash of racist incidents.
You would think that the election of America's first black president would be considered a welcoming milestone for this country. Well, not so for some segments of white America. Ugly incidents such as cross-burnings and assassination betting pools are being reported from our eastern borders to the southern most parts of America.
On November 6, a cross was burned on the lawn of a biracial couple.
The Klu Klux Klan has been tied to a plot by two Tennessee men implicated for plotting to kill Obama and 88 black men.
A murder in Louisiana of a KKK initiate was allegedly killed after trying to back out of joining the group.
These are just a few examples of some of the disturbing incidents that have occurred since President-elect Obama's victory. It seems each week brings more and more of these appalling occurrences to light. When trying to analyze the cause of such hatred I find myself asking the question “Will America ever get pass its racist past?” Even though America has a ways to go in regards to race relations, I have to remain hopeful. After all
America did elect the 44th president of the United States who happens to be an African-American.
