The Vice Presidential Debate '08

Who won the 2008 Vice Presidential Debate? Gov. Sarah Palin or Sen. Joe Biden? Learn how preparation, tone, and presentation style, including eye contact and self-confidence, could win over a crowd.

The Vice-Presidential Debate, 08, Governor Sarah Palin versus Senator Joe Biden, was staged at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The moderator was Gwen Eiffel. Who won the debate? More appropriately, given that this is a first time presidential election in which a woman is on the ballot, did Gov. Sarah Palin, prove herself able to fill the job of Vice President of the United States?

As a high-spirited, articulate yet, straight-up direct talker I am convinced the average American was able to connect with her on the issues discussed. She and Senator Biden presented their opposing views on the issues of taxes, health-care, energy, gay-marriage, terrorism, the war in Iraq and foreign policies. Palin was outstanding, forceful and knowledgeable. She was strong in the areas of her expertise, i.e. taxes and energy, and stayed away from in-depth information in areas she was not, i.e. foreign policies, yet, was very persuasive. She held herself up throughout the entire hour and a half without wavering. She was well prepared and presented herself exceptionally.

Biden was himself effective. His experience spoke for him more-so than he did for himself. Thereby, he did not require his self to overpower the debate, allowing for Palin to shine in her confidence and knowledge on the issues. Did she win the debate? Yes. Feisty, eager and ready, Palin had proven that she not only is capable of handling the Vice Presidency, but more importantly, she demonstrated with her electrifying energy that she wants the job. I give her an A.

Although, Biden is of course qualified and would easily slip into the position of Vice President, or potential President of the United States if need be, his tone and presentation in the debate were quite knowledgeable, but tiring. I give him a B.

As a result of the Vice Presidential debate, 2008, changes in the polls would favor the McCain-Palin ticket. It would give them a boost in potential winning votes on the November 4th election.
