Persuasive Topic Speech: Christianity

Christianity is not credible. It has too many holes in its beliefs and its history.

The truth is, religion, was something invented in the ancient days to fill the space of science. It gave the people hope, made them follow their king, and gave the church power. It gave them something to believe in, a final goal and to eradicate their fear of death. Religion were created by humans to explain the world that they could not understand, and so it is my belief that 'god' is the child of the human mind, rather than us being the children of god. When it was created, along with it came the beliefs of creationism and the fact that the universe revolved around the earth. These were proven to be wrong by modern science. The fact that these were wrong makes the religion less credible because the creators and followers of the religion in history believed in these wrong facts that were directly related to Christianity. People who opposed these were punished heavily by the church for being heretics, when in the first place, where always right. The Catholic Church itself is already abdicating some of its hard-held beliefs in creationism. I ask you, why is it that the Catholic Church is ‘apologizing' for prosecuting people like Charles Darwin for putting forward evolution? Because it realises that its religion has too many holes in it, and that parts of it are wrong, putting forward the rest it believes in for questioning.

The fact that there were so many different religions in different ethical countries makes god even less credible. There will be people who have never heard of Jesus or God. If God created them all and is everywhere, why is it that these people have no idea who he is? Christianity was the religion of the Western Culture, and since that culture dominates today's modern world, that is said to be the human and the one religion. But other countries follow other religions. Muslim. Buddhism. If 'god' created all, then how come only one type of culture knew of him in the past?

Why did Jesus not appear in China, heal a sick woman, appear in Africa and cure a man of malaria?

Given that God is good in nature how can we explain the vast quantity of wars that have resulted from the Bible's various interpretations? God is also powerful so surely He knew that these wars would arise as a result of the Bible - so why did He decide to dictate it in Hebrew, one of the most ambiguous languages known to humankind? Surely He would have had a prophet in every country on every planet reproduce a local version in the local language - this would have been more moral and would have caused less bloodshed than allowing us to mistranslate it!

We find that everything in the Bible is written by the supporters and followers of Jesus, whose aim it is to both glorify him and to convert people. All the actions of Jesus that we know of are those that his followers wanted us to know, and as we find from studying the actual texts, there are many things that Jesus clearly didn't do - such as ride into Jerusalem on TWO animals simultaneously. Do we ask Bill Gates how good Windows is? Do we ask a gospel-writer what Jesus did? It is in both's interest to promote their object as much as possible.

Asking whether Jesus was real is like asking whether Hercules, Odysseus, Helen of Troy, or Odin actually existed. Perhaps based on a real person, these myths give no indication of what that real person was like as they have been made into grand stories, by the story teller, in order to make it a good story. All legends use real times, places or events but insert mythological characters and events.

The New Testament and the Old Testament conflict often. The Old Testament actually predicts Jesus to be called Emmanuel. It also stated that he would be a direct-male descendant of King David, which he is not.

If god created everything, even the universe, how come he only seems to represent one race, human beings? With science becoming more advanced and advanced, it is becoming increasingly likely that there will be other races that will look different, speak different tongues and have a different god. If god was real, then they would also have the same beliefs in the same god. So, will this race be condemned and sent to hell because they come from light years away and have never heard of god, a fabrication of man?

If god is supposed to protect us from evil and omnipotent, how come he does not protect us from the existing evil? If he was powerful, then he would be a lot better at getting followers. He can't because he is not real. God expects so much from us as individuals. How come he makes us so imperfect then? Christianity is very inconsistent in its beliefs and the idea of God.

I simply refuse in believing in the unprovable concepts of god, as there is little to back up these claims. Many would agree with me that science is built on a stronger foundation and is more solid than religion, and will at some stage, disprove religion and find an answer.
