As a young adult, I feel that rap music is the best kind of music out there. It has anything anyone would want out of their music. Inspiring and thought provoking lyrics, a well thought out beat, and talented musicians. I think that all parents should expose their kids to rap music at a young age. It teaches them about the birds and the bees for instance. Where would we be as a society without knowing about what the bitches and hoes do?
It also lets kids know about the dangers of drugs and weapons. If you let your young one listen to rap they'll learn at an early age what happens when they “pop a cap in someone's ass” and about what happens to people in prison.
They will also learn a healthy respect for the law. Every rapper knows not to mess with the po-po or else dey gonna' get jacked up. Imagine what a world without rap would be like. A world where no one was spittin' mad rhymes yo'. It's unimaginable. How would we have survived without such awe-inspiring lyrics such as “If a bitch don't like me, somethin's wrong with the bitch...” It amazes me daily how people can actually come up with something so original and creative.
Rap also exposes children to a different culture than their own. Most white suburbanite children have never actually been to a ghetto but through rap they are transported there through the vivid descriptions of the ghetto. Descriptions of hustlin', pimpin', smokin', ballin', and much, much more.
Rap also gives the kids of the lower socioeconomic status a chance to take a peek into the rich life. For instance the lyrics, “Pull up on the block in the alien gray Bentley, Full of sport modes, you never could hang with me, Just to get in early, I paid a extra 50” give a good glimpse into the life of the rich and famous.
They also show the children that drugs aren't really so bad, as long as your sellin' "em or smokin" "em, as demonstrated by these superb lyrics, “Pull up to the club, chicks in the back, Some smokin on weed, some sippin Co-gnac”
But alas, our rhythmical heroes are also plagued with problems such as us normal people. Jay-Z immortalizes his numerous problems in a lyrical masterpiece named “99 Problems”.
Here"s a little sample, “I got the rap patrol on the gat patrol, Foes that wanna make sure my casket's closed, Rap critics that say he's "Money Cash Hoes", I'm from the hood stupid what type of facts are those, If you grew up with holes in your zapitos ,You'd celebrate the minute you was having dough, I'm like f*** critics you can kiss my whole a*******.” I think Mr. Z sums it up nicely. It's not all fun and games for rappers. But they press on in the face of adversity just so they can deliver to us pieces of great musical genius.
Rappers also demonstrate an impeccable sense of style. They are trendsetters. From their oversized pants and shirts to their crooked hats and their expensive bling they always know how to dress sharp. Not only do they dress stylishly but they also dress practically. What better way to conceal an AK-47 or 10 kilos of crack cocaine than in your pants that are 7 sizes too big?
Overall I think rappers are the best choice for my generation to look to for guidance. Without rappers I think we would be lost as a society. Who else would we look to for guidance on all of life's problems with a few ghetto colloquialisms thrown in for kicks?
