The BBC news reporter Russell Smith has spent some time in the village of Moyale in Ethiopia on 6th of April and says the food crisis has escalated and now one in three people need food aid as a result of the drought and food shortage as 70% of the live stock has died during the drought. The exact number of deaths in the village has not been confirmed but individual deaths have been noted.
Tato, a member of the village, found an eight-year old baby die of starvation and Ibrahim has also died due to starvation. So it can be said that the main cause of deaths in the village is caused by starvation. However the village isn't alone and food aid has been received by the village as each household gets 20kg of wheat which has come from the US aid and the people seem to be grateful Naima a member of the village said “I am really impressed” and Tato said “Before there was no one to listen to women - but now we feel really impressed that people can listen to us and send aid when it is needed”.
