Kabul: Afghan security forces have arrested 12 suicide bombers in Ghazni, a purported Taliban spokesman in Helmand and killed 18 insurgents in Kunar province during the latest operations.
Ghazni Police Chief Gen. Ali Shah Ahmandzai confirmed on Thursday that they had captured a 12-member group of would be suicide bombers led by Mullah Nimatullah.
'They were prepared for suicide attacks on security forces and foreign troops' he added.
An operation is ongoing in the area for past few days to disrupt the terrorist activities of the insurgents.
Elsewhere in Helmand province, a purported Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi along with his brother was captured in an operation Wednesday, said a statement released by the country's interior ministry.
Qari Yousaf Ahmadi was appointed as group's spokesman after his predecessor, Abdullatif Hakimi, was arrested in Pakistan last year. The Taliban have yet to confirm his arrest.
In Eastern Afghanistan, officials claimed that they have killed 18 insurgents in the Wattapur district of Kunar province during operation "Da Maar Ghakh (Snake"s Tooth)'.
There are some reports of civilian casualties in the operation but the officials did not confirm them.
In their recent attacks, the insurgents have killed 8 police in Shehr Safa district of Zabul province and abducted two Red Cross foreign workers in Wardak province, confirmed the officials.
