Kashmir Issue

This file contain a brief history of Kashmir and the Kashmir issue.

Kashmir has been reigned by different nations in different times, these nations include Hindus, Muslims (Sultans and Mughals), Afghans, Dogra Sikhs.

Struggling period of kashmiri people started during the period of Dogras. Gulab Singh 1st maharajah in Dogra period first included Ladakh in Jammu (stated under them) in 1834. In 1846 Gulab Singh got the ownership of Kasmir under Treaty of Amritser by paying 75 lakh rupees demanded by British government. At this time economical condition was not so good, there was reign of poverty. 1st movement against Dogra Raj was started in 1931. This movement was launched by J&K National Conference (NC) led by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Mirwaiz Mohammad Yosuf Shah.

1947 was the year to decide the future of J&K after the independence of Indian subcontinent.

October 1947, Hari Singh Last Maharaja signed the agreement with India, that state of Jammu and Kashmir is part of India, against the wishes of kashmiri people. British government decided to accept the merging of Kashmir to India.

This issue was taken to UN Security Council in 1948, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was appointed Prime Minister of J&K by Indian govt. UN commission passed the resolution that the State's future be decided in accordance with the will of people. Both the countries agreed on the resolutions. But until now this issue is unsolved, there is ongoing human rights violation by Indian army. This issue resulted in war between two nations three times. There are several occasion when there was tension at the borders like Kargil and siachen incidents. And there are a few efforts to solve the issue by both governments. APHC is trying to solve this matter politically and their demand is to solve the issue according to resolutions of UN. But this has not been yet done. Currently independence movement is re-fired and two main persons demanding separation of muslims, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani have joined hand in this movement, after economical cutoof of kashmiri muslims and illegal transfer of land to hindu religious organization.
