Call Boxes are in Danger of Removal

Phone boxes that might be removed from some towns and cities.

BT are planning to remove a dozen phone boxes across Burnley and Pendle. Council bosses in Burnley have pledged to carry out a public consultation exercise over the four telephone kiosks.

The call boxes are located in the following areas:

Manchester Road near the Calderbrook Avenue

Red Lees Road in Mereclough

Rossendale Road near Harold Avenue

Accrington Road, Hapton

Susan Davies, Burnley council's development control manager said: “The boxes are set to be removed this autumn as they are little used”

However, BT are going to consult with the public whether it is a good idea to remove them.

A provisional decision will take place, allowing further comments to be made in August before a final ruling made by the council in September 6.

Eight further call boxes have been earth marked for removal including one in Park View Terrace, Salterforth, which villagers say is a lifeline for tourists.

The remaining boxes are under threat in Barrowford on Gisburn Road, and Carr Road on Nelson and a few more.

Informative article. When I saw the title of your article i thought they were gonna be removed here in the US where I am, but soon discovered that it's not. I had to use a call box one time on the freeway cause my tire blew out and had no spare. It saved me time and money and the response time was very quick.
