During the times of change for the country of Syria, many have noticed both good and bad outcomes. The title of this article says it all, it the actual situation in people; the rich are getting richer and poor getting poor. A big viewable change in the country is the change in stores and how the more expensive, less attainable stores are growing; the Syrian people still see these stores as a pleasure that is not affordable.
A recent survey shows that in a group of one-thousand people, seventy percent of the people believe that their economic situation has deteriorated in the last two years. Eleven percent or two million people do not obtain basic foods and needs. The inflation rate has increased greatly, things such as the price of fruits and vegetables have doubled and the pricing of housing or rent have multiplied by three.
All product prices rise for consumers, but the consumer's wages are not increasing to match up the prices of these products. The inflation rate in 2007 was a five and a half percent increase, and now statistics are measuring up to thirty percent in inflation of prices. Things that are on their way to be implemented to fix these problems include investment plans to create a new industrial city, which ultimately can give work to many that are unemployed. One thing that is said by the State Planning Commission, is that the government should put into play higher taxes on the rich and lower on the poor, if the adoption of a free market is enacted then the poor will be ruined.
The main reason for this is because Syria is trying to make a conversion from a Soviet-era control center to a free market country. This change for the poor is hard because in the past money incomes where provided by the government during the "Soviet-era control center"; now during the free market environment the government squeezes little help and the economy becomes more primitive, where the money is for the person who owns the most and the money is not distributed evenly. "Rich people owning business get more money, but the poor have to pay more to preserve their standard of living"-SEC's Shujaa.
I believe that this country is in the right path to wanting a better life for everybody. One thing that these people could keep in mind is that as soon as the stable money flow is overthrown one way, the heaviest side will keep getting heavier, richer. Stuff as investments to build jobs is not so great because with every employee comes a boss. The boss is obviously going to benefit a lot more from the revenues given to him by the government, than the employee.
It may sound a little one sided but the truth is that you have to charge prices more (taxes) to the rich, then letting the rich charge more for products. Even with the free trade ideas, it still comes with boundaries but the process to having a free market economy is a long road that cannot be cut short. It is a matter of time, which the people of Syria should take to enlighten the poor, and make a standard of living pleasurable for everybody. Time and patience should be implemented. Focusing on the weaker side of the problem will always improve the strong side, never hurt it, which is the way I would think of when facing a problem of stabilizing an economy.
Plight: a condition, state, or situation, esp. an unfavorable or unfortunate one
