Baby is Thrown From Window in Miracle Rescue

A baby was thrown from the window of a blazing flat by his father, and escaped with no injuries.

This week a two year old German boy was thrown from a third floor flat by his father. He took the agonizing decision in order to save the baby's life during a house fire in Ludwigshafen, an industrial city in South West Germany. The baby fell through smoke and fumes and was miraculously caught in the arms of a policeman below.

The building was full of people who lived in temporary housing there, and visitors to the city's carnival. The fire killed nine other people including five children. Sixty people were injured and in a second miracle, two small children survived by hiding together behind a sofa.

It is unclear how this fire started but arson is suspected because there had been a similar attack on a house in the city a year ago. It started on the first floor and soon made its way up the wooden staircase which became so hot that is literally turned into a pile of ashes. Firemen said that this was why so many people could not get out of the building.
