According to various newspapers, the Harper government is trying to have a law adopted that would give legal rights to the foetus of pregnant women. While this at first looks like a law that makes sense, what people inside the Harper camp are saying is that the goal of this law is to actually pass another law that would say that considering that said foetus has rights, that women would no longer be able to get abortion, because that would be against the legal rights of the foetus. This has doctors around Canada being concerned that this will take back people to be aborted in basements, flashback to the early 1900's. Not to the surprise of many, this law is said to be well received by the Western Canada provinces, who are said to be as conservative has their government.
