Finland School Shootings: Why?

In recent times many foreigners have shown interest to know reasons behind the Finnish school shootings. These acts have often been considered as an American phenomenon. What does it mean that such a phenomenon has come into a country which has traditionally been considered as a somewhat safe place for everyone who wishes to have a normal, ordinary life?

Reasons

First of all, when tragedy strikes there is usually more than just one reason. We need several reasons to be able cause a disaster. In a country like Finland events like this are a major disaster.

School violence in Finland has been very little compared to many other countries. We don't usually have police officers, metal-detactors or security guards to keep things in order. From my own experience (I quit school in 2005), all students and teachers knew each other very well. Due to small number of population school sizes are not gigantic. You can actually get to know almost every students - of course not necessarily in universities!

(False?) sense of security is one factor

It is easy to blame video and pc games for spreading violence. For an actual incident to happen, you need more than that. In normal hands a player of violent video games does not turn into a blood-thirsty psychopath. From this we can draw conclusion that mental problems of the youths is one key factor.

How are mental issues handled in Finland?

It should be noted that in Finland we have several possible risk factors which can cause mental disorders. Foreigners might believe it's all because of the long, cold winter - but that is hardly so. More like, lack of social activities, lack of a social network is a major problem. It is easy to log online and get in touch with radical youths.

From websites offering ideologies is possible to find a "role", "meaning" for a separated, individual existence. Feeding the idea of martyrdom. Also, many western muslim terrorists (yes, who were born and spent their whole lives in western countries) have been seperated from the society and lacking social networks which every youth needs.

Many parents have no idea what is going on in the online world. They have NO idea what kind of websites their kids are viewing. I can tell this also from my own experience. Parents are busy with work, paying their bills, getting food on the table. Is easy to forget sometimes to focus on the bigger issues.

It is easy to blame capitalism, but truth is that still few decades ago young people here communicated more with parents, grand-parents and relatives, families were more united, even marriages more lasting. Parents didn't spend much time outside of their homes. Meals were eaten together. Existed true and real communication. This is one key word here - communication. In a rarely populated country-like Finland-social network becomes highly important. People to talk with, share feelings with, to draw support from-yes, even receive much needed intimacy. We need girlfriends and boyfriends for everyone who needs such! Ones that will stick loyally to their mates, not just for the reason of FUN.

Young people need counsel, direction, identity - a purpose of living and a place in this world. Religion used to give such answers but has lost credibility, especially in Europe and countries like Finland, since the times of Darwin.

The role of authorities and health-care officials

In every school we have health-care officials. But how actively they are searching for individuals with risk behaviour? They are not. I could visit my school nurse once in a week, if I had a need - and there was no one else taking her time. That is passive. Person with problems must ACTIVELY seek for help. This is a problem, because it is not automatic at all.

What happens if or when someone seeks help?

In my town it takes 1-2 years for a person to get psychological treatment. So many patients are on the queue and not enough personel and resources to take care of their needs. We can blame the politicians and authorities for neglecting the citizen's needs. Of course, they consider themselves "innocent" in front of insane violence. But when thinking carefully enough, is easy to feel somewhat differently on this defense.

Health-care does cost - both for the patient and the community. And the community is not providing enough for this. Why it is so?

Financial difficulties

Still in the 1990s Finnish health-care was, undoubtebly, one of the best in the world. Effective, cheap and satisfactory - at least for the most patients. Really, what else could have been needed?

Sadly enough, Finland suffered a heavy economical suppression in 1990-1993. This was, in fact, the worst in any western European country after the Second World War. This was caused by the fall of the Soviet Union - back then the country's biggest trade partner. The Finnish people paid a heavy price for these financial mistakes of the ruling financial experts. Unemployment rate rose from 3.5% to 18%. Social-Economic structures changed for good.

For the Government it seemed "wise" to cut expenses - one easy way to do so was the health-care. Easiest was to cut expenses in the field of mental health and elderly people - people with not much "visible", physical wounds. Short thinking, really.

In addition, as Finland joined the European Union in 1995, taxation has been cut from around 49% to 37%. This, too, means cuts. At the moment Finnish state has a debt of some 50 billion euros. Compared to many other western countries - like Italy or Belgium - this is till not much, but for our politicians it is a shame. "We must cut our foreign debts". And this has been done, in a slow pace.

In reality, the situation in health-care is still far from perfect. Results we see in every day life. Unfortunately, sometimes even in such a radical form as the late school shootings. A tragedy.

Perhaps after one incident it could be considered merely as a coincidence, but after TWO incidents the messages starts to be clear: "Politicians, wake up!"

The Finnish nation needs politicians and authorities that TRULY, deeply care for the needs of the nation. That is the only true solution.

Baltimore: A City That Will Rise

As a Marylander born and bred and a long time resident of Baltimore City I have become quite disturbed by what I've seen in my city. With shows like "The Wire" as well as "The Corner" I feel like there is another side of the city that isn't being portrayed enough. Yes, it is true that our murder rate is the second highest in the country. And over 20% of our population lives below the poverty line. Still Baltimore is a city that continues on with its life. It's not all crime, murder and drugs. Let us not forget about the families that push themselves through the struggles of inner city life everyday.

Baltimore is a city of characters. Everyone you meet, every where you go has a story to tell and will most times will do so with a smile on their face. There is a strong sense of family in the communities and friends and neighbors are for the most part always willing to lend a helping hand. During the warmer months you can drive down the streets and see people sitting on their front steps talking until way past the sun goes down. Kids playing ball in the streets. People just being people. And the ice cream truck is always a welcome sight and sound.

Yes, like any city it has its problems with drugs, crime, prostitution, gangs and etc. But, there is a certain energy to it that can not be put into words. There's a sort of sense of survival in the air. A sense of hope. Baltimore has always been known as a working class town, and they will continue to work to make themselves better people. In 1907 February of 1907 The Great Baltimore Fire burned for some 30 hours destoying over 1,500 buildings. It was later said theat the city had risen from the ashes. Well, once again this city will rise from the ashes.

Porsche Girl?

Nikki Catsouras was a freshman in college and only 18 years old when she took her parents Porsche out for a drive. She was going 100 mph trying to pass a Honda that was going 70 mph. She went through a few lanes of highway, then tragically slammed into a concrete toll booth. Of course her parents were grieving the loss of their beautiful daughter, but the worst was yet to come.

I don't want to get too into detail, but what happened to poor Nikki's body is awful. I myself have stumbled upon the pictures and witnessed the mess she became. And let me just say to those who think it is, it is NOT funny. It is never funny when something like this happens. Not much later, Nikki's little sister received a text message of her sister's mangled body. As well as her dad through an email. And later, her myspace even held the pictures. How did this happen? Two officers who were supposed to turn the pictures in, decided to forward them to their own email address, and then to a few more people. That is how the pictures got out. What was done with the pictures was terrible. I have visited sites, where I have read one terrible comment after another about this poor girl's death. I have seen jokes about the pictures of the accident, which I tell you now, they are not pretty, and it's not a joke. What happened to her is not funny nor should it ever be. I will not post the pictures, out of respect for her, her family, and just because it's the right thing to do.

I have a word to say to those who think it's funny, to those who participated in making her family's life hell, o those who just really don't have a heart. God is watching. Making a joke out of her tragic death is only hurting yourself. It makes you look stupid and heartless. For everyone else who is curious to see the pictures, go ahead and look at them. But don't laugh about it, or make jokes about her, you should mourn for her, and for her family's loss.

With people today on the internet, pushing her pictures around, showing them to everyone they know. That is how this girl became so famous. How wrong is that? People shouldn't want to know about her death, or see pictures of her accident. They should want to know about her life! See pictures from when she was happy and alive.

To her family... God be with you. I'm sorry for your loss, I could never imagine going through what you are today. You have such courage, and you had a beautiful daughter. So may God bless your life, and may she rest peacefully in heaven.

2012

Prime Minister Boris Johnson stood proudly as King William proclaimed the 2012 Olympics open. All the international leaders were there. President Barak Obama looked on appreciatively, Prime Minister Putin glowed a healthy green and President Charles of Wales was at his first Olympics following the breakaway campaign that had seen Cornwall finally gain it's independence after his disgruntlement at being overlooked for succeeding his retiring mother to the throne.

Records were expected to fall after the decision by IOC President Ben Johnson to give up the battle against drugs and allow it to become part and parcel of Olympic sport. Just a week earlier, Dwain Chambers had run the 100 metres in just under 5 seconds.

Birmingham held it's breath as it prepared to hold the games due to the failure of London to complete the facilities on time. Perry Bar Greyhound Stadium wasn't quite the same, but it was there, it was full and it was ready. Rowing was to take place on the canals through Sandwell, the shooting events on the streets of Aston. Judo had been booked into local pubs across the city on Friday and Saturday nights, whilst various pools in Walsall and Wolverhampton would host the swimming.

It had to be a success following the failure of Jurgen Klinsman to get the England football team to the finals of this years European Championships and the rugby team's dismal attempts under the returning Sir Clive Woodward in the Five Nations playing a bizarre form rugby that seemed to incorporate football. Whilst they got the offside rule down to a tee, their penalty attempts were rubbish, rarely going over the bar apart from when - ironically - those recruited from the football team were taking them.

Cricket hadn't been much better, with England losing the summer's test series to Holland in a whipping of the sort that hadn't been seen since the 2011 test series against the Irish. Freddie Flintoff duly stepped down at the press conference that followed, grasping a bottle of beer and sticking two fingers up to the press.

It was a depressing state of affairs, especially as the Great British public needed sporting triumph to take their minds off their dire circumstances. Inflation was at 12.5%, despite Boris' insistence that it was still at 2.5%.

The big fuel companies made record profits, with some recording over £100 billion. Still, they insisted that it was all coming from projects in Russia and therefore couldn't lower the prices at the pumps. Sir Roger Largebank-Account made this announcement whilst informing us he needed his £35 billion bonus to keep his children in drugs.

As a reaction to these obscene profits and high fuel costs, people had taken to driving cars powered by alcohol, with pumps at pubs reporting a roaring trade.

Which was lucky, as ban on drinking beer indoors in public places had come into effect on July 1st, prompting pubs and breweries to report a nosedive in takings. Rest assured though, the evil spectrum of beer-drinkers was nearly extinguished. Speaking from Geneva in Switzerland where she had been exiled to, the head of CAMRA Phillipa Pint was defiant, but even she must know that the war is nearly lost. People can now enter a pub without risking the taste of beer infiltrating their livers.

It has also put an end to any lingering stenches of community, something that was getting dangerously in the way of rich business entrepreneurs, those gods of money who must be worshipped and put before all else.

Terrorists now have the right to hold police officers than police officers had to hold terrorists due to the PC Brigade, who quite correctly have recognised that all criminals, not just terrorists have just as much if not more rights than normal law-abiding citizens who have been getting in the way of these more blighters who have earned the right to be criminals because of their background.

The real scourge of society, drivers are now slowly being driven off the road. Why anyone thought they had the right to use these roads in a vehicle that could kill. Remember, speed kills, not actually crashing into people. Therefore, a government campaign to encourage more people to take their eyes off the road to check speedometers, speed limits and safety cameras has gathered pace. It is absolutely fine to hit people so long as you are driving under the speed limit. To back this campaign up, the government have also introduced laws to ensure more people who may or may not cause an accident are rightly locked up before they get the chance to cause one. Maybe. At the very least, it is only right we make their lives a misery and make sure they feel suitably small.

Finally, all small businesses, especially those that benefit rural communities have been successfully crushed by multi-national corporations determined to make even more millions.

But not get a successful Olympic Games up and running…

Expect a Guilty Plea

I need to confess that although the news reports say this man has been in the Senate longer than any other Republican, I never heard of Ted Stevens, of Alaska, before today. Of course, my mind wanders toward Hawaii when I dream of far away places and I physically go there when my body does drift away for vacations.

So, Alaska to me is one of those foreign countries I have never visited, but others say that it is a beautiful place. I do seem to recall that they have a bridge to nowhere there and apparently a lot of oil someplace where no one ever goes, but we cannot have that oil. Oh, and I remember that a group of people went to Alaska to live with the bears and the bears ate them. Everyone was surprised? Not me, isn't that what bears do? I probably should not write the Alaska state travel brochure, but if you want to discuss Hawaii, I am your guy!

Let's get back to Senator Ted Stevens. I read today that he pled not guilty to federal charges against him; something to do with “gifts” he should not have taken from a company named VETO. The name alone should make you want to take your business elsewhere. The good Senator did what all good Senators do under the circumstances; he denied every wrong doing alleged in the indictment against him.

If you expected him to do otherwise, raise your hand. If your hand is in the air I have an investment opportunity for you; just send me a blank check and I'll fill you in on the details of the investment sometime in the future. Work with me here, we will make great business partners!

The Senator's statement was that he never knowingly did anything wrong. That is definitely worded for wiggle room at some later date. That key word “knowingly” may resurface at some time in the future, perhaps during plea negotiations. However, I do seem to recall that ignorance of the law is not a valid defense. I learned that watching “Law and Order”.

I know this is off the subject a bit, but did Senator Stevens have something to do with that bridge to nowhere? Even though is has no bearing on whether or not he is culpable in the crime for which he plead not guilty, it is evidence that he is not very bright. I think that rubbing noses thing they do up there destroys brain cells. Of course he is 84 years young and he has been rubbing noses for a lot of years, which could be a factor.

Someone should do a study. Could that actually be used in his defense? How much money is needed for the study? Will congress fund such a study? Surely it cannot be as costly as that bridge to nowhere. This has potential and it has me thinking like a politician; without logic… actually the appropriate word is stupidly.

I'm not as old as Senator Stevens and my mind is not what it used to be. I tend to forget things a bit in my “not that old” age, so I am going to cut the Senator some slack on that bridge thing, since there was no allegation of a bribe in the deal. As yet, nothing criminal is alleged in that bridge debacle; he may have just gone off his meds, or maybe that nose rubbing factor kicked in. Whatever it was, Senator Stevens was not thinking clearly. Deborah and I have not taken up the nose rubbing tradition and I am not on meds........... yet, but I do not always think clearly, so I can relate.

Back to that “knowingly” word. It does concern me when the best defense one has is to say he really did not know he was doing anything wrong. Apparently the good Senator got around $250,000 worth of questionable “gifts” in the alleged crime that he does not know he committed, if he committed it.

It is important to remember here that this man is a long term member of congress. He makes laws and spends our hard earned tax dollars. Even if I give this him the benefit of doubt on that “knowingly” part of his denial, I do not want him to remain in the Senate. Whether he knew it was wrong, or not, if he did it he is at least guilty of being extremely “unsmart”. I cannot get around that fact, so please take this man out of the law making and tax dollar spending business. Maybe he just spent too many nights in a cold igloo and he has permanent brain freeze. I'm searching for an answer here.

All of the aforementioned said, he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and I expect this case will never see the inside of a courtroom, for trial. The man is 84 years young and he has served in the Senate for decades. There is no way he will be dragged through the court system, found guilty and sentenced to prison time. There is an unwritten law that protects congresspersons from prison time unless you do something to the wrong person in government. Senator Stevens did not cross the wrong person, but it does appear he got caught looking for loose change in the wrong pockets.

The Way I Look at It: Clark and "Snooks"

As everybody on the East Coast of the United States should know by now, on Sunday afternoon on July 27, 2008, a diminutive “pseudo-tycoon” named Clark Rockefeller suddenly abducted his 7-year old daughter, Reigh Storrow “Snooks” Boss during a supervised parental visit in Boston's Back Bay. On the face of it, somewhat disturbing stuff when a young child is kidnapped and whisked away in a “black SUV-type vehicle”, the social worker supervising the visit being dragged for several feet while trying to hang on as the SUV sped away. Not a good scene. But let's look at this story which has been unfolding over the past five days and let's see if we can figure this out.

This newly-evolving saga is quickly approaching the point where this tale should enchant a society where, twins are born in France and some magazine pays $10,000,000 for an exclusive for their “official first photos”. Are the Brangelina's THAT INTERESTING and noteworthy to command this prominence in our lives? I guess so, because the magazine is relying on the supposition that lot's of people will buy their rag to see these pics. Well, along the lines of that type of thinking, wouldn't people want to see the exclusive pictures and read the story of how Clark Rockefeller is apprehended and “Snooks” is saved? I say yes. I say the solution to this caper REQUIRES that the many thousands of people who care to find out what's going on with Britney Spears, pay very close attention to what is going on here.

So let's look at what's happened to date. No use spending too much time reciting the history of Clark Rockefeller, his alleged wife Sandra Lynn Boss and their adorable daughter Reigh. The bottom line to their past is this was an unusual, eccentric, clouded and screwed-up relationship that produced a handsome child. Is Clark married to Sandra? Nobody can find any documents that support the notion that they are, who knows and who cares. That won't help to solve the current mystery.

Moving to present time, Clark runs off with his daughter in the middle of the day, with the initial assistance of a hired driver, and vanishes into thin air. He is driven in an SUV to the Massachusetts General Hospital (less than a mile from the abduction site) and then takes a cab to the Boston Sailing Club at Lewis Wharf, a journey of approximately 1 mile from the hospital. There he gets into the privately-owned vehicle of an acquaintance he has met at the sailing club. For the grand fee of $500.00 the sailing club co-member agrees, with no apparent thought as to what might be really going on, to drive Clark and Snooks to New York City.

So, in summary, we have Clark Rockefeller snatching his daughter from under the nose of a trained social worker who is supervising his parental visit with his daughter. We see Clark heave his daughter into a hired SUV that pulls up in front of the park where the visit is taking place. That activity notwithstanding, the livery driver then proceeds to take Clark less than a mile to MGH, even though and in addition to everything else, he has just had a social worker jump on his vehicle and be dragged down a busy street in the middle of Boston. Clark takes a cab to a sailing club, and upon his arrival, Clark and Reigh get into a car driven by an acquaintance, Aileen Ang, age 30 and known to Clark; and together they all drive to New York City. Pretty amazing stuff, don't you think.

My initial question is what were the livery driver and sailing club co-member thinking? They claim to simply be “innocents” seduced by the aura of dealing with a “Rockefeller” and the illusion of riches and high-society notoriety that must have driven the seduction. Huh? This is nonsense. These people aren't pure idiots. Maybe greedy idiots better describes them. $500.00 to drive some weirdo and his daughter to New York City on a Sunday afternoon? I don't think so, at least not being “innocent” to the truth of what was really going on. I think the authorities might want to take another look at what Aileen Ang, the 30-year old sailing club acquaintance, was really paid. Same thing with the livery driver, whose name has not been released but is said to be “cooperating with the authorities”. I bet he is. There's no question in my mind that this guy was paid lots to drive to the park at a specific time, come to a screeching halt and wait while Clark hauls his daughter to the waiting vehicle, then roars off with someone hanging onto his bumper. I can easily understand how something like this occurrence could be misunderstood by the driver, right? WRONG!!!

So off to New York City we go where Clark and his daughter are dropped off at Grand Central Station. If there's any illusion on anyone's part that Ang didn't know the facts or understand that she was an accomplice in a kidnapping, then please explain how she missed reading any of the dozen or so highway sign banners reading “Amber Alert !!”.

C'mon. There, allegedly refusing to join Clark and his daughter on a “cruise”, Ang drives away and calls her Mom to tell her what happened. That's after she allegedly calls a friend, who tells her what Clark Rockefeller “has done” and that everyone, including the FBI, is looking for him. Like she didn't know.

In any event, Clark and Snooks disappear at Grand Central Station in mid-town New York City, not that difficult a task I guess. The next day they are allegedly observed in Smyrna, Delaware. Okay, that makes sense to me, he's heading south and he's heading for “open water”. What, might one ask, does that mean? Well, this is where all of you who love a mystery and love to follow the “news” come in. Here's how you catch this guy.

“Open water” in this case means Delaware Bay and the channel leading into Chesapeake Bay. If I we put ourselves into the mind of this “great thinker”, Clark Rockefeller I believe that his next move is to set course down the Chesapeake Bay and into the InterCoastal Waterway at Norfolk, VA. Now Clark has been described as a “competent sailor” by his instructors at the Boston Sailing Club. That's all fine and dandy, but you can forget about looking for a 72' catamaran. That's not happening. Clark has been trained to sail single-mast 25' sailboats. There are a few “sailing lessons” that need to occur before Clark sits at the helm of a 72' sailing yacht on his way to Peru (or anywhere else for that matter).

Look for a 25' - 30' single mast sailboat plying its way down Chesapeake Bay. Better yet, look for a 25' - 35' motor cruiser working its way south on Chesapeake Bay. I think that's more likely due to the fact that Clark thinks he can outwit everybody and believes that everyone will be looking for a sailing vessel. He successfully bought time having the authorities looking for the 72' “Serenity”, probably got them to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars doing so. Now that the ruse has been exposed on the 72' vessel, he figures they will still look for the sailboat; hence, he is in a motor craft.

Everyone who lives or works on Chesapeake Bay now needs to pay attention. He's still in these waters today. My guess is that by tomorrow he will be past Norfolk, VA. If I had a say in this, I would have every marina on alert and I would have been in contact with every boat rental facility between the Delaware Bay channel and Baltimore, and check the whereabouts of every vessel that is still out on rental. It's not that difficult to remain anonymous out on the water. In this case, if everyone pays attention just a little bit, Clark Rockefeller should be in custody within 24 hours. Honestly. One more thing, just to spice this up an insure that this gets the cover page on “People” magazine, the authorities should put out a “Paparazzi Bounty” on Clark and Snooks, implying that they might want to sniff up and down Chesapeake Bay looking for him. This strategy will almost insure that he is caught, and caught soon.

You Tube's Privacy Invaded

As many people know, Viacom has been in a lawsuit with Google, or YouTube specificlly, for a billion dollars. The lawsuit was created against youtube because Viacom feels that people are watching their shows on YouTube rather than watching them on TV, thus making them not being able to make any money. I feel that Viacom is way too greedy and that they are overreacting. Many poeple on youtube hate them, they make video's about hating them! The judge for this lawsuit was Judge Louis L. Stanton and has forced youtube to give viacom all of their logs, meaning they can see everything that we have been watching aswell as out IP addresses. Even though the Supreme Court has ruled that we have a right to provacy, youtube has everything because we agreed to give them it when we signed up, I don't believe that we agreed to give viacom anything, at all. It is a invasion of privacy. I think I speak for all of the youtubers when i say this, Viacom is a company full of greedy and nosey people and that they shouldn't be aloud to invade our privacy. Obviously, google doesn't care about their community and they should have cared about our privacy.

Identity Theft and Me

Several years ago I was a police officer, I worked in the field about four years in different positions and ranks. The term identity theft didn't exist in the law or in the general public's idea of crime. I don't know of anyone who received a call to investigate identity theft. In the last few years as technology has grown so has the threat of everyday criminals access to electronics that make it much easier to gain your private information.

In today's crime world, anyone can pay and get private information from companies on the web. A simple search of “buy social security numbers” will return sites that allow anyone to buy stolen information, including your name, your address, your credit card and social security numbers. Thieves have come up with ingenious ways to funnel this money to hinder law enforcement. One example is from The Boston Globe, “At least 45.7 million credit and debit card numbers were stolen by hackers who ... credit card numbers to buy more than $8 million worth of gift cards.”

The majority of today's identity theft complaints come from retail stores who maintain electronic records that were compromised by a stolen computer or by an insure network. However there are still a significant amount of complaints from banks, hospitals, and charitable organizations. With so much consumer information available it seems like there is no end to this crime. Increasingly companies are slow to react and issue a press release when they know their records or networks have been compromised. Its only after someone discovers their identity has been stolen do businesses come out and tell the dozens of other people affected that there may be a problem. If you try to contact a company to alert them you have an account with them you didn't authorize, they let you talk to someone who doesn't think your telling the truth. The company may ask for forms and information that are difficult to track down. In the end it is an uphill battle.

There are several companies that make claims to protect your credit by monitoring the credit reporting agencies for a fee. They claim they will be liable for up to a certain dollar amounts if your identity is stolen. This doesn't sound too bad, except is my personal information so readily available for Mr. Criminal that I need to pay a company to protect me. My piece of mind is worth a lot but the cost of a monthly service to protect my good name and credit history is just unthinkable for me.

I would like to see the federal government along with the state legislatures enact legislation that would shut down these sites or fine the server. Restrict trade with a county that refuses to work together to put a stop to identity theft. Fine businesses that allow customer records to be stolen, and levy even bigger fines against companies that don't immediately report the theft when they discover it. This issue is a major one, credit affects your and my ability to buy auto insurance, get a house, a job, to be able to borrow money when we really need it such as for health insurance deductibles. With the estimated amounts of loss in the billions each year its time someone did more than what is being done now. That's my two cents take them before their stolen and turned into a gift card.

Teenage Mass Killings Why?

Often reading the news about a young man running amok with a semi automatic rifle raises once more the question of the right to bare arms within the United States.

Many will campaign and push for all arms to be surrendered whilst perhaps just as many will say "it is our right to protect ourselves" when really in my opinion ALL of them should be asking "what can we do to include rather than exclude our teens?

Draconian measures will not make a jot of difference to a young person hell bent on taking his own life and those around him.
The problem is not in the amount of guns available nor the ease of access, as it is in the minds of the young.
Most if not all young people today feel at some time in their lives that they are ignored / dismissed and patronized not only by their parents /guardians but also their peers, most of this has or does come about through media worship of the rich and famous.

I do not mean the actual rich and famous people of Hollywood / T.V. land more so the icons of our day those great gods we must all aspire to own such as designer brand names,( I will not mention nor single out any particular one as they are all the same)

The media in its chase of the dollar has helped shape the minds and thoughts of the young in America since the invention of commercial television and the understanding of commerce (backhanders)
Faced with a constant barrage of information about who is wearing what and which is "the" thing to have many teens have a sensory overload in the brains leading to feelings of inadequacy when they find their peers have all the latest things, Parents are as much to blame with their constant desire to be seen as "with it and contemporary".
They are also weak enough to cave in to the constant moaning from the kids about Tommy or Samantha down the block having it.

There is of course no easy fix for those who are disenfranchised from society but the signs are now becoming all to apparent as to the potential make up of these teen mass killers the problem though does not rest entirely on their shoulders more so with those around them who may have the chance to see the warning signs and yet ignore them.
Perhaps a media campaign would help to alert parents as well as teens as to the danger signs to be wary of those in trouble.

Perhaps also the gun lobby may care to put some money aside as an insurance policy for those innocents who are caught up in the failure of the system to regulate arms ownership better still a government tax on all arms manufacturers to enable arms amnesties to be held nationwide with a reward for each illegal weapon handed in provided by the extra tax?

I agree it would not immediately stop the killings but it may just focus peoples minds a while longer than this latest shooting will, for after the media has torn apart this young persons life and family and found only the same kind of problems as Virginia tech then they will once more concentrate on the "real issues" of the day like where did Brittany get her hair done?

What Kimkins Victims Want You to Know

Meet Heidi Diaz, aka "Kimmer". She is the founder Kimkins, a controversial weight loss plan and pricey online community. She may also be the most notorious "success" story in the history of weight loss scams. She is, without question, one of the most passionately despised personalities in the history of the weight loss industry.

Diaz is currently the subject of a class action lawsuit brought against her in San Diego, California. Multitudes of former Kimkins devotees claim to have been seriously injured by unsound medical advice, unfair business practices, and fraud. They charge that Diaz fabricated a success story (her own), and then used that story to sell an expensive program that, for many, resulted in hair loss, fainting, and other medical complications.

In addition to legal action, many former Kimkins dieters have committed themselves to warning others through blogs, forums and websites. This is necessary, in part, to alert other Kimkins victims of their legal rights. More importantly, they feel an obligation to warn others of the hazzards of the Kimkins weight loss plan. Why? Because the catastrophic program is still in business and still turning a profit.

The Kimkins website, the heart of the Diaz money monster, hasn't skipped a beat. As of June, 2008, the site still touts the unique advantages of joining their program. The site is still capable of processing $79.95 credit card payments for the privilege of accessing their forum and other limited diet resources. The most obvious change, one no first-time visitor would notice, is the absence of any reference to "Kimmer" or her amazing claims of diet success.

The Kimkins cash-cow continues in spite of reality. Even though its founder, Diaz, admitted in a sworn deposition that her claims and promotions were fraudulent. In November of 2007, Diaz admitted to lying about her diet success and the general efficacy of her weight loss plan. She also admitted to using photos stolen from other sites and using them for promotional materials. One of those images was published in a flattering Woman's World Magazine cover story about the diet plan. Woman's World Magazine has since retracted its endorsement of the plan and apologized to its readers.

Diaz, in her deposition, also admitted conspiring to hide and dispose of her assets. It is clear from email evidence that she intended to appear penniless when damages are inevitably assessed in a lawsuit she will most certainly lose. In November, a judge granted permission for attorneys representing the victims to freeze her assets.

Kimkins survivors will not be satisfied by monetary compensation. For them, the lawsuit is only the beginning. What victims of the Kimkins diet is an end to the dangerous and deceptive program. As the Kimkins business continues profiting, victims continue a grassroots assault. Their blogs, websites, and forums are countless and growing stronger in membership everyday.
