The Terrorists at Home

You're either cooking dinner for the family or you're outside mowing the lawn. It's a normal day in a normal life, or at least as normal as normal gets while there are terror scandals an ocean away, terror bases in the deserts of the Middle East and nuclear programs running in Iran. Little do you know, your eight year old is upstairs coordinating an attack on Libya using nuclear warheads and soldiers armed with guns illegal to own as a civilian for no apparent reason, neglecting the devastating consequences this action will have on UN relations between the globe and the USA. You know what he or she is interested in? Pixels. Where are the graphics? Does the explosion look real? How much blood is there? In a world where virtual simulations are being used to train our soldiers in the Army, Navy and Marines, is it such a good idea to be furnishing tactical simulations to our children that run through declassified military operations and formations as though they're crayons and paper? All these are questions we will have to ask ourselves in the coming age of virtual terrorism.

Editor-in-Chief of “US News & World Report, Mortimer B. Zuckerman has defined the goal of Terrorists quite thoroughly in his article, The Tyranny of Imagery in the October 30th, 2006 edition of his publication. In brazen, bold red letters at the center of page one: “Perhaps better than anyone, terrorists understand how pictures of violence amplify their cynical message, paralyzing democracies around the globe,” is the explanation we need in the report regarding whether we accomplished our mission in Iraq or against terror once this war, if ever, comes to an end. “Now players can surprise the enemy for the ultimate advantage in firefights, leading a fire team throughout the entire Normandy campaign. For the first time, players will also be able to lead a bazooka team, order their squad on an MG42, or fire mortar rounds. An enhanced co-op mode (Skirmish) offers players a 12-mission campaign,” is the description available on www.Gameseek.com.uk which describes the Playstation Portable video game, “Brothers in Arms”.

To a parent at Christmas; this is harmless. Who among our generation does not have parents or guardians that watched war movies where soldiers would not bleed when shot? Differences here are noted. First, the level of interaction that your impressionable child has over a virtual character that is made to look exactly like a living human. Second, the realistic gore of violence included in video games that depicts war-like scenarios of mine explosions, rocket explosions, gunfire, wounded comrades, decapitation, dismemberment, organ trauma, etc. Third yet not last is the obvious way in which stimulating visual and audio media affects our immediate, real-life circumstance. Watch “Cold Mountain” again and decide not to feel disheartened at the end. Do not laugh through any of Abbott and Costello's comedy routines. Do not laugh at Mitch Hedberg or Dane Cook.

Do not laugh at Eddie or Charlie Murphy. In fact, don't laugh at all. Sickening truth is, your children are doing the laughing for you as they put bullets in each other's heads without repercussion. What is scarier than that is that simulated military violence is not where it ended. It has come to our streets in the virtual world through games like “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City”.

Blazing Plane Caught on Camera

In the incident, which took place at Munich airport, passengers can be seen jumping out of the front door and running across the tarmac in fear of their safety.

Those evacuating from the back entrance are seen rushing down a stairwell to escape.

The footage was shot by a passenger through a window in a nearby plane using his camera.

Emergency services arrived quickly and put out the flames.

Authorities say the plane's left carriage briefly caught fire, and that passengers were able to get off the plane safely - and there have been no reports of any injuries.

An investigation's underway to find out what caused the fire.

Is Marilyn Manson Really Bald?

It is claimed that a French fan has unveiled Marilyn Manson's most closely guarded secret. The American singer and artist is well known for his outrageous music, orthodox dress and general all round anti establishment attitude.

Manson's stage name comes from a combination of his two idols: Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson, but his overall image is certainly more Marilyn than Manson with all the make-up and face paint. He is known for his long, jet black hair and pale face. He wears lipstick and heavy eye shadow and is popular for his music and Goth appearance.

At least, that's how things used to be before this video clip went into circulation. Apparently the fan tried to approach Manson to congratulate him on his success but the star was well protected by body guards.

The fan, reports say, persisted, and Manson agreed to shake hands with him. The fan hugged the star and managed, somehow, to knock his hat and his 'wig' to the ground.

At no point in this video do we get a really clear view of the face of Marilyn Manson and after the wig falls off the camera is a long way off.

This might well be the revelation of a closely guarded secret, or it could be a stand-in acting the part so that the film could be made.

Genuine, or fake?

You decide!

The New Celebrity: Not Being Exposed

In this day and age there is a new definition of the "15 minutes of fame" and celebrity (or as I like to call it cele-brate-me). When anyone can be a star on YouTube or MySpace with something scandalous, funny or just plain offensive it is easy for people to feel as though they are somehow relevant to the world in a way they could not be before.

In the past in order to be famous or even infamous, major news media outlets all had to agree that your content was worthy of the small amount of space available on the evening news. You needed a record deal to produce and release main stream music, a contract with a major movie studio to appear in a film or a story so amazing that it would be written about in the local or maybe national newspaper.

Now with the tremendous success of reality television and the advances of the internet and computers, you can simply photograph or video yourself, often using your home computer or inexpensive digital camera, and post it anywhere on the internet for all to see. You can also be captured on surveillance cameras doing all sorts of things you would not have been seen doing previously and billions of dollars have been made taping the escapades of college girls during their spring break drunkenness.

When anyone can be infamous for just about anything what in the years to come will be the new definition of "celebrity"? My guess is that it will be anyone who manages not to permanently sabotage their dignity in Cyberspace by getting caught or posting things that, years from now, they will regret and would likely rather forget they had done.

Britney, Brittany, Britney Spears

What can I say about Britney Spears that hasn't already been said on the web, magazines, television, etc.? Not much. When I first hear of Britney Spears, back when she was young and underdressed, I hate to say it but I despised her. My own daughter, named Brittany, also didn't like her. My daughter thought that she demoralized girls and women. My daughter never wanted to been seen just as a young woman but as a person as well. Yes beautiful but also, intelligent, funny and personable, not plastic.

I named my daughter Brittany because to me it sounded like a princess's name. My daughter Brittany was and still is my princess, even at age 21. Britney Spears on the other hand was raised to be a pop princess.

Not all of what has happened to Britney Spears is her fault, nor do I feel it is her parents fault. Yes, her mother was her manager and to me made some very bad judgment calls. Come on now, how many parents put their underage daughter in a school girl's uniform to parade around a camera seductively? Not many good parents. But again, I don't blame Britney's later hardships just on her parents. Media does have a lot to do with it. Living under a microscope, can any of us say we would survive? What if every move you made was taped or photographed. How good would you look?

Can you imagine what it must be like to have friends only because you are famous? People who want to be around you just because of what you can do for them. Like I said in the beginning of this, I used to despise Britney Spears. Now I kind of feel sorry for her. What kind of life has she lived so far? Money is not everything, although a lot of people might say it is. What about family, what about love, what about true friendships? That is what life is about.

Two girls, both with the same name, although spelled different. What would Britney Spears' life be like if she was just Brittany? Would she have gone to college? Would she have a happy and successful life? Would she be happily married with children? I think yes Britney Spears would be happy if she was just Brittany. I think when it comes down to it she would be very happy. I think Britney Spears just wants what the rest of us have. A loving family and true friends.

Man Tasered

If you do not know what I am referring to you can watch the video.

Ok now you know what I am talking about and there have been a lot of opinions about this event. In my opinion the officer had an attitude and if he felt in danger than why did he instruct the guy to get out of his vehicle and than turn his back on the man while they walk away from the vehicle and towards the cruiser? That was a mistake on the officer's part. The guy should not have had his hands in his pocket and walk away from the officer.

Whether it was right or wrong the guy should have listen to the officer's instructions and than fought later in the courts instead of the side of the highway. Also it seemed like the arresting officer was not honest with the other officer when he told him the story. The arresting officer did not really warn the man that he was going to tased. I think the officer should not be allowed to be a cop anymore because he did a lot of things wrong in this ordinary traffic stop.

Jesse James: Five Hollywood Hunks

TYRONE POWER

One of the greatest swashbucklers of them all and later to be immortalized on the album cover of The Beatles "Sgt Pepper"s Lonely Hearts Club', Tyrone played Jesse in the 1939 film "Jesse James". As the film posters of the time proclaimed "The epic story of the most colourful outlaw who ever lived" this version of the James story is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining to watch. Simply put this is Tyrone at his best.

BRAD PITT

What can you say about one of Hollywood's most golden of golden boys? First it was Brad and Gwyneth, then Brad and Jennifer, now it's Brad and Angelina - he tore his Achilles tendon while playing the part of Achilles in the film Troy and his first ever job was dancing in a chicken suit outside a chicken restaurant. On the Jesse James front, Brad plays the outlaw in probably the longest titled film of 2007 "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford".

JAMES DEAN

It was back in 1953, just two years before his tragic death that James Dean was cast as Jesse in the T.V. series "You Are There". Each episode concentrated on a character from history and James's episode was entitled "The Capture of Jesse James". Incidentally, James Dean is the only actor to have received more than one Oscar nomination posthumously.

COLIN FARRELL

For a man who failed an audition for the Boy-band "Boyzone" and then was a line-dancing instructor in a Limerick nightclub, Colin has had a meteoric rise to Hollywood stardom. Along the way, back in 2001, he played Jesse James in "American Outlaws", a film that isn't entirely faithful to the James' legend but is pretty good fun all the same.

AUDIE MURPHY

During World War II, Audie Murphy became a national hero as the most decorated combat soldier of the war. Among his 33 awards was "The Congressional Medal of Honor" the highest citation for bravery that a soldier can receive. After the war the naturally shy Audie, became a rancher, songwriter and Hollywood hero and his inclusion into the Jesse James Hall of Fame dates back to 1950 when he played Jesse in the film "Kansas Raiders".
