The Michael Vick Dog Fighting Incident

A charming young football enthusiast, no one suspected the Micheal Vick was actually black. Or that he would wind up in the center of one of histories greatest dogfighting scandals. Vick was well known in the dogfighting world, having been nominated into the hall of fame more than any other competitor. Vick however, was caught using Pokemon in these contests, after an FBI sting operation(based on an anonymous tip) raided all 12 of his homes.(the tip was that the homes might be owned by someone famous, and that police should search them for auction-able memorabilia).

While taking a break from digging through Vick's closets, the investigators found Vick's "kennel", which was revealed to be a factory in which actual dogs skins were ripped off, and made into suits for Pokemon to wear, allowing Vick to sneak them into dogfighting events without drawing any attention. The public was outraged that Vick would stoop to such low tactics in order to dominate a sport whose target audience consisted of Vick, Vick's friends, and Vice Lord Vader Cheney. Vick pleaded guilty to all charges, but revealed he was actually an alcoholic, and that he needed the money to buy vodka. He was sent to rehab(instead of the mandatory trillion and seven year jail sentence) where he met his future wife, Lindsey Lohan. The public, outraged that Vick would be unable to afford Vodka, pushed for dogfighting leagues to allow Pokemon in dog skins to participate in contests. This, ironically, made the sport of dogfighting, for the first time in history, an illegal event, but still not considered immoral.

Problems in Our Community

One of the changes that I would change in our community is gangs. I would change gangs because lots of people are being killed in gangs. Most of the people are teenagers. Some of the people are killed because they rip people off by selling drugs. If people get mad, they tend to kill that person. If I could change something about gangs, I would tell everybody to keep an eye on the block they live on. If everybody did that, there will be fewer gangs. I would go to places and talk to parents of teenagers. I would also tell the parents to watch their children.

The second thing I would change is killing that is going on. I would like to change this because in the past two years, innocent people have been killed. In most cases the husbands kill their wives. All of those people were innocent. They had nothing to do with drug dealing, gangs or killing other people. Other people get killed by car crashes. The only advice I would give is that they should drive in caution. People who drive very fast should not be given a ticket for speeding. Their license should be taken away. Then they should take driving lessons again. I would do this by putting a police man on every main street. Then everybody will drive on the right speed.

If these things are changed, our community will have a big affect. Less people will be killed and less people will choose the wrong path. Our community will have peace. Everybody will be able to go on the street without being scared of strangers. So if people choose the right path, there will be good stuff happening in your life and community.

What are the Tibet People Fighting For?

Recently, there have been massive uprising of violence in Tibet against China. But why are the people doing this? Surely it can't be for fun? We will go into depth at the reasons in why blood is being spilled in this region. These people are not spilling blood for fun!

Tibet is a region in central Asia right under China. The ground has an average height of 4900 metres and is the highest region on earth! Tibet is a peaceful country and most people are Buddhists here. They believe in non-violence and most people are good minded people. But why are they responsible for many deaths in the past few weeks?

Tibet has a long history of fighting and revolution mainly against China. Although now a colony of China, originally was a proud and independent country. They used to have a large empire which might have stretched to as far south as Bengal and as far north as Mongolia. However, China had tried to conquer Tibet for a long time but Tibet always had fought bravely and drove China out. But in 1951, Tibet was incorporated into China by the signing of the Seventeen Point Agreement. Since then, this region became Chinese.

Since then there has been no rest. The people are not fighting for individual greed. They are sticking together to gain freedom from China. However, in response, China had immigrated many and many people by force into Tibet to make Tibet a more Chinese region. The Tibetans of course are trying to resist the Chinese government which is trying to pressurise Tibet and threatening violence just because the Tibetans are fighting for their own rights. The Chinese are also claiming that they have more losses when in Tibet hundreds of people died due to unnecessary violence by the Chinese government and killing innocent people. China is trying to crush the anti-Chinese feelings but China has no sense of apology or anything for what they did wrong. They had taken Tibet by force and most countries in the world has gained independence, but China, desperate not to make small losses, are refusing to give up this region.

Heavy-handed military and political occupation of Tibet is completely needless. Especially last Friday, destroying the 6000 of the Tibetans' holy Buddhist monasteries was a very cruel thing to do by the Chinese government after treating Tibetans like second-class citizens. Beijing lying about Tibet for so long is obviously bound to cause rage in Tibet. Tibet is fighting for a just cause, but China is just fighting for a little gain. Also the Dalai Lama, (Leader of Tibet) wants nothing more than respecting the Tibet's culture and basic rights and has tried to stop violence. But the Chinese referred to him on a propaganda poster as "the hideous face of the Dalai clique". How harsh is this on Dalai Lama who is only doing what is right for them.

Overall, the Chinese should be withdrawing their troops now and stop the unfair treatment of the Tibetans. China shouldn't need to be using violence and killing innocent people just for a small gain which would be nothing for them seeing as they already have a large empire and it's not as if there are unlimited useful resources in this region. Even if they do not give Tibet independence, they should at least try to give the Tibetans basic rights and a quality of life worth living for.

Maybe They Need Bigger Rocks

There is civil unrest in Tibet. It started with the Tibetan monks protesting in Lhasa. Now it has spread to other cities. The Chinese army has been sent in to quell the uproar. The Tibetans are not coming out to good in this deal.

All they have to fight with is rocks for the most part. The Chinese have guns. So you can imagine how one-sided this fight is. The Tibetans claim the Chinese have killed around 100 of them and injured several hundred. The Chinese have not really even admitted there is a fight going on and claim they are making the Tibetans healthier!!

We'll see how this plays out, but I think we can all see how it's going to end up in the end. If they Tibetans are going to continue to fight they at least need bigger rocks!!

Bush's New Plan for Victory in Iraq

War has been waged in Iraq for what seems like forever now, and it has been all over our news on a daily basis since it began. What is this fighting really doing however? Are we really protecting the rights of the Iraqi government? These are questions we all want answers to and we look to the head of our government for answers.

Right now is the most crucial time in the war with the United States’ new defense secretary, and new generals coming with new strategies. The main factor in the success of the years of fighting that soldiers have been waging in Iraq is if the new Iraqi government can really stand up on its own. The US mission in Iraq is to suppress the violence created by radicals occurring there. Bush seems to think that it cannot and that another surge of troops is necessary in the fight. He claims that the right decision is to stay engaged and deal with the radicals, while Senator Carl Levin says that the President must end this “blank check to Iraq.”

In opposition to a surge was former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. While Bush thought more troops were needed, Rumsfeld believed the contrary to be the best solution. He wanted to decrease military force all around in Iraq, however his successor entered office and it seemed that a military surge was now definite. Both President and Secretary of Defense now share the same view on troops in Iraq, and although numerous others disagree it seems forces will be increased within the next 4 to 6 months
