If I Were Barack Obama, What Would I Do for America?

Global Economy Policy

Our trade for gross domestic products never have an excellent benchmark since Bush's eight- -year-long administrations and thus I'll fight for a trade policy that rewards more foreign markets as means to boost more jobs for Americans. I'll also take action to increase pressure to the World Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) by enforcing trade agreements to spread good words on our labors, skills, expertises and standards to the world, and to stop countries from continuing unfair government subsidies to foreign exporters and nontariff barriers on U.S. exports. At the same time, I'll curb any devalued activities that will put U.S. at the position of low currency or dollar devaluation.

I'll urge world leaders to reconstruct a complete economical framework to boost the world's and America's economic growth. To voice my concern about the financial crisis, I'll work collectively with the world's leaders from other countries and teams of economical experts as a measure to introduce the new opportunities for prosperity and cooperation among the America's Congress members and also among other countries. This is important to develop a more effective and comprehensive economical framework in order to promote stability and growth in our Wall Street share market as well as other international financial markets in a macro scale.

America's Economy Policy

More dollars will be allocated to rebuild our own economic structures as a measure to boost a steady economic growth in America. I want all my people to have better jobs, better payment and better future. I want the progress to bring to America, in which our economy is stable, living condition is good, people here have good jobs and live peacefully while working whole-heartedly with me to fight off the global financial crisis that we're facing at the moment.

As president, I know the difficulty of my people to struggle and suffer for seeking employments so I'll introduce more foreign investors to our country to create more jobs for my people here. My members will continue working very hard to strive for the lower fuel price we could ever get by introducing fiscal policy into our financial framework so that the pressure is not felt much by the Americans.

The peace and growth mean a lot to America as they're both important elements for America and the world as well. Therefore, I urge you all not to discriminate among each other just because of religions, educational backgrounds, skin colors, social and financial status. Whether it be pure Americans, African-Americans, Chinese-Americans or any other American races, we're all living under one same flag of America, and thus we should care for each other to rebuild a strengthen family so as to stimulate our economic growth and nation building. I urge you to work with me for the betterment of the United States!

I know that some of you are annoyed with the failure of deregulation and poorest function of the Free Market that have caused you to pay for higher tax, educational fee, home mortgage, retirement plan and other daily expenditures, so I'll work very hard with a brilliant economic team to find a better solution to solve your problems.

Task ahead will be tougher as I've to clear up 8 years of George W.Bush's term, but I promise you that change will be introduced to our economical system. I want to see healthy and stable economical growth back to our country where people can afford to survive.

I'm sad to learn that the minimum wage had not changed for the past 10 years before the Democrats took back Congress. Even the minimum wage is scheduled to rise to $7.25 an hour by 2009 this minimum wage is still not enough to cope with the purchasing power among the consumers. I'm extremely sad to learn that the purchasing power is well below than that in 1968. People who work full time shouldn't be allowed to live in poverty. To solve this problem, I'll raise the minimum wage and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to ensure that full-time workers could earn a living that enables them to pay for basic expenditures (food and drink, transportation, education, clothes), housing, and miscellaneous needs.

I'll ensure every home and business in urban and rural America to easily get broadband Internet access at a lower rate that can be affordable by low-income people to help them start business with the world. To ensure the success of my plan, I'll reshape the Telephone Universal Service Program, and direct the FCC to better manage the nation's airwaves as ways to encourage public-private partnership to have more low-income communities engaged actively in a global business.

As promised in my election campaign, I'll provide $1,000 dollar emergency energy rebates, which would be sent to working families immediately to help offset the cost of spiking energy and food prices. Over a 5 year period, these rebates will bear by a tax on the excessive profits of oil companies. Additional $50 billion will also be allocated to promote funding for state and local government services and for fast-tracked infrastructure projects. Apart from this, I've also considered long-term investments in training, education and workforce development, scientific innovations and creativity inventions, R&D research are essential to create more entrepreneurs, high-wage jobs that will definitely bring prosperity to my country and to a world economy.

Energy and Environmental Policy

As promised in my election campaign, I'll implement Cap and Trade Program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to its minimal level. I'll ensure my cap-and-trade policy be effective immediately to ensure all industries pay for every ton of emissions they release to our environment. I've also promised to strategically allocate $150 billion over 10 years to accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial scale renewable energy, encourage energy efficiency, advance the generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure besides investing in low emissions coal plants. I'll encourage for any clean, sustainable energy sources (solar, biomass, geothermal, solar and etc.) for energy consumptions in government offices, private sectors and home users.

As president, I want to help private sectors to create more green jobs for my people. At the same time, I'll invest in programs to help upgrade America's highly-skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing premises to ensure workers have skills in the green technologies so that a thorough green policy can be attained effectively.

To promote the green air policy, I'll provide a $7,000 tax credit for the purchased of advanced designed vehicles which release zero or little emissions to the air. Dollars will be allocated for plants that produce the cheapest, cleanest, as well as energy efficiency electrical appliances and transports so that it'll save consumes on paying higher bills.

Climate change is a global issue caused by a tremendous development and unexpected man-made products. As my country is the largest producer of greenhouse gases, I'll lead America to reduce greenhouse emissions by using clean-burning renewable energies and biofuels. Meanwhile, I'll arrange appointment with the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) and any other related environmental organizations to address my views on global energy usage, environmental concerns and solutions via international forums, press conferences, exhibitions and seminars to help raise the environmental awareness and to combat the environmental issues the world is facing now.

U.S. Military, Security Policy in Iraq and in America

I'll invite a group of Baghdad journalists, a few westerners who have been serving in Iraq and a press conference and those who've living in the Red Zone for a chat. From this meeting, I'll have an opportunity to understand more about the Iraqi life and the sufferings they faced in the past war. I'll respect their freedom of speeches and opinions as I know they're people who have experiencing the nightmare of the war than anyone in the U.S. embassy or the Iraqi government themselves. They are people who could tell me a lot more about the present condition in Iraq. Of course, I'll ensure strict protection is taken for my personal security to avoid the terrorist attack or any unexpected attacks.

I'll order my senator to invite community leaders, NGO members, investors, press representatives, and the world's politicians to meet around the table to share their ideas on what they think might be the appropriate and the best ways to retreat the U.S. troops from the land of Iraq. From here, they share their invaluable values with me which will later help me to shape a new Iraqi policy.

I may also prefer to meet the world's delegates, members of government offices and parliament mostly from Iraqis to attend for my informal chat. Once they get pass the elaborate security checks at the main entrance to the Green Zone, I'll meet their arrivals with my Iraqi translator. Those who're here for a random selection for this informal chat will earn themselves a freedom to speak in front of me under a strict security protection. I'm pretty sure that these Iraqis will deliver me plenty of their opinions, views, facts in Iraq, and suggestions that will eventually help shape my personal views on foreign policy, and U.S. military.

I'll take my courage to strongly oppose Bush's war strategy in Iraq. And I must admit and feel sorry for the wrong attacking strategy America taken under Bush's U.S. military policy which has caused many casualties for both Iraqis and American soldiers. I'll address my deepest condolences to the deceased. I believe that the end of the use of torture and extraordinary rendition is essential at the moment, as many experts have disapproved that torture is an effective method of interrogation. The use of torture may have put my troops serving abroad in a great threat. Also, this torture is wrong and cruel in a moral standpoint. Due to these reasons, the practice of torture and extraordinary rendition should be abolished.

Reducing the U.S. troop in Iraq is essential to apply less pressure on the Iraqi government. My commanders will take a new mission: ending the war in Iraq. I'll also work together with the Iraqi government to protect the American diplomatic and other parties, and if under certain threatened condition, I may have conducted targeted counter-terrorism missions to ensure the world's peace. I'll assure to the world that aggressive and permanent bases will not be built in Iraq, in order to achieve the stability while reducing hatred in the Middle East, and at the same time, I'll address my personal views on Iraq's humanitarian crisis and its solution. In a nutshell, I'll reestablish U.S. Moral troop and leadership to restore the confidence of the world towards America's position, fame, and reputation particularly in dealing with foreign laws, economical growth and political policy.

I'll close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Centre which has been served as a recruiting mean for America's enemies. I'll develop a fair process to distinguish those who should be prosecuted for their crimes in justice, and those who should be released or transferred to their home countries based upon the rules of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Though I strongly against the war but I'll not hesitate to order military force to take their new jobs if America is under the threat of terrorists. Therefore, I'll always ensure that my troops are strong, healthy, agile and lethal to take their painstaking posts to either capture or kill terrorists who pose a direct threat either to America or to the world. I do not want to see 911 events recurring in America. To achieve this goal, I'll ensure that America is equipped with strong armed forces to help challenging the toughest jobs. Next, I'll boost our military troops to have the ability to speak several languages so that they'll understand other people's cultures, religions, and customs better and also to better target the terrorists in a global context.

America's security earns my foremost consideration so I'll ensure every American is safe in their homeland. I'll assure Americans with a series of homeland security programs to make our land of America safer and more secure to live. With regards to the prevention towards the natural catastrophe, I'll recommend trainings and tests in all my administrations. I'll provide them with necessary equipments, supports they require; reallocate the risk group to a safer place; improve the emergency respond to catastrophe or human errors by investing the required and related resources; increase the security in railroads, airports, ports, industrial plants, transit system, roads and streets, education institutions, legal firms, government offices, multinational and private companies, nuclear and chemical plants, public infrastructures, other critical facilities and people's safety.

Remark:

Tonight (the victory's night), we've made a history in the United States. Change has come to America. The road ahead will be toughest and challenging for us to explore, but I'm here striving with you to ensure every of your dream coming true in our beloved motherland of the United States. I'll never forget that the victory belongs to you and I promise you that we, Americans will get there. Trust on me and believe that America can change. Together we're standing on the land of the United States and I'm here to make your dream coming real for a better life, better future and better global and economical prospect. May God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.
Emerging Young Leaders of the Philippines

The Philippines is currently witnessing the emergence of young and dynamic leaders. These young leaders are noticeably well educated and full of idealism in their youth.

In a little less than two years, the Philippines will elect a new set of national leaders when the current term of the incumbent President Gloria Arroyo ends in 2010. All indications point to the inevitable contest of young political personalities with their burning desire to transform the Philippines from one of the poorest countries in Asia into a progressive and developed country in this part of the world.

Because of their relative popularity gained from their early exposure in politics, they seem to have some added advantage over their seasoned political rivals who are either in their senior years or have been branded by the electorate as traditional politicians.

A few of these emerging young leaders who have excelled in lawmaking and governance are featured in a series of articles about the emerging young leaders of the Philippines.

Francis (Chiz) Escudero

38 years old

Senator, Republic of the Philippines

Francis Escudero or “Chiz” to family and friends, started in politics as a youthful Congressman of the first district of Sorsogon, a progressive province located south of Manila. The congressional seat was somehow passed on to him by his father, the former Secretary of Agriculture, Salvador Escudero. Though he did campaign very hard to win, it is believed that his father was very instrumental in his election as Congressman of his district. He was 28 years old when he got elected into office in 1998. For more than 10 years, he has continuously climbed up the political ladder capitalizing on his father's own political clout in the province. His first election to congress marked the beginning of his colorful political career. He was elected as Assistant Majority Floor Leader of the 11th congress and eventually assumed the position of Second Deputy Majority Floor Leader. He later served as the Minority Floor Leader during his last term as congressman.

Congressman Escudero served congress for three consecutive terms ending in 2007 when his last term expired. He then run as an opposition candidate for a seat in the senate that saw him topping the list of winners, second only to Senator Loren Legarda, who ranked first with more than 18 million votes. He is presently the chairman of the justice and ways and means committee.

Senator Escudero is a talented young man. He studied at the University of the Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. After graduation, he enrolled at the UP College of Law and in 1993 he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He later took the bar examinations and passed. He then enrolled at Georgetown University in USA and graduated with a Masters degree in International and Comparative Law.

After finishing law, he became an Associate of Bautista, Picazzo, Buyco, Tan and Fider Law Offices. Later he acted as consultant for some private entities and non-government organizations. Presently he serves as Partner of the Escudero, Marasigan, Sta. Ana, Valiente and Villareal Law Offices.

Chiz is rumored to be running for President of the Philippines in the 2010 presidential elections. He will be 40 years old by then and if he is elected, he will become youngest president the country will ever have. It would seem that Chiz will satisfy the Constitutional provision of the Philippine constitution which provides that a candidate for Philippine presidency must at least be 40 years old at the time of his election to that office.

Loren Legarda

48 years old

Senator, Republic of the Philippines

Loren Legarda was born on January 28, 1960. She is the daughter of Antonio Cabrera Legarda of Manila and San Pablo City and Bessie Bautista of Manila and Antique. Her Grandfather is Jose Bautista, former Editor of Manila Times. Loren completed her grade school and secondary education at Assumption Convent where she graduated Valedictorian. She later enrolled at the University of the Philippines, took up Broadcast Communications and graduated cum laude.

Loren started her journalism career when she joined RPN Channel 9 as a news reporter. While working, Loren was studying at the same time. She enrolled at the National Defense College of the Philippines where she obtained a Masters Degree in National Security Administration, emerging as the topnotcher of her class. She is a Lt. Colonel in the Armed Forces of the Philippines reserved force.

Loren Legarda's journalism career reached its peak when she moved to ABS-CBN as news anchor for “The World Tonight”, a nightly news program. She also hosted a TV News Magazine entitled, “The Inside Story”, an investigative weekly newsmagazine series. This program brought Loren to the hinterlands and remote areas of the country.

Loren's career in broadcast journalism earned for her countless awards including the Benigno Aquino Award for Journalism. Some of the major awards that she received include; the Catholic Mass Media Hall of Fame Award, TOWNS award for excellence in media, among others.

Loren Legarda's political career started when she joined the 1998 senatorial contest and won convincingly garnering about 15 million votes and becoming the youngest woman senator of the country. Since her election to the Senate, she worked very hard for the enactment of some of the most significant laws of the country. These laws were mostly directed to the preservation of the environment, government procurement reforms, wildlife protection and conservation, trade and domestic concerns. Her track records in lawmaking is remarkable as evidenced by the multifarious bills that she filed, some of which have already been enacted into law. Outside of her lawmaking mandate, she has managed to capitalize on her being a popular media personality in promoting peace among the warring factions of Philippine society.

In the 2004 national election, Loren ran as Vice-President of the Philippines as the running mate of Fernando Poe, Jr. Many believed that she won that election and she, in fact, filed an election protest in the electoral tribunal to validate her claim as the elected Vice-President of the country. Various significant events have overtaken the election protest until the next senatorial election came. And so in 2007, she decided to run again for another term in the senate and won. She in fact emerged as the topnotcher with over 18 million votes.

With Loren's enviable credential in broadcast journalism, lawmaking and governance, many of her constituents and followers believe that she is destined to embrace a new role in Philippine politics in the very near future. This early, a public opinion poll has been conducted on a nationwide scale and the result indicated that the tandem of Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero is unbeatable if elections were held today. Depending on the political developments between now and 2010, the Loren-Francis team -up (or Francis-Loren?) seems to be a sure bet.

Anwar Ibrahim: The Will to Serve

Anwar Ibrahim reminds me of Ninoy Aquino, a great Filipino icon who gave up his own dear life to liberate his countrymen from the bondage of repression and dictatorship.

When Senator Benigno Aquino of the Philippines was living in exile in the United States during his bitter political fight with the then President Ferdinand Marcos, he declared to the international community and to the millions of his followers in his own country and all over the world that indeed the Filipino is worth dying for. True enough, Ninoy, as he was fondly called by most Filipinos, gave his own life for the sake of his country and people. In his fight for freedom and democracy, Ninoy is loved and remembered today by all peace loving Filipinos who enjoy freedom and democracy that Ninoy paid dearly with his own life.

Anwar Ibrahim seems to replicate the life and political career of Ninoy. Because of Anwar's perceived human rights advocacy and his pro democratic stance, he earned the ire of his political mentors who tend to trample on the rights of its citizens in order to advance their own political agenda and perpetuate themselves in power.

For his youth, vigor and idealism and his adherence to the democratic processes and institutions of democracy, he paid dearly for his noble stance. At the height of his political career, he was herded by the Malaysian police into prison on trumped up charges of graft and corruption and sodomy that were apparently concocted to justify his continued detention, thereby isolating him from his constituents and supporters. He was then the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.

It is a common knowledge in Malaysia and in the international community that Anwar is a political detainee rather than a criminal prisoner. Obviously his being kept in prison until lately would somehow make the political heat to subside, with Anwar's inability to communicate his thoughts and ideology to his own constituents and political supporters which are mostly made up of young and freedom loving citizens of Malaysia.

Anwar Ibrahim's meteoric rise to political supremacy in Malaysia's politics may be traced to his youth and idealism. Anwar was born on August 10, 1947 and received his early education in his hometown before gaining admission to the prestigious Malay College in Kuala Kangsar. He continued his studies at the University of Malaya for his college degree. While in college he witnessed and eventually joined the street riots denouncing graft and corruption in government, and the issue of poverty in the marginalized sector of the Malaysian society. In recognition of his leadership, he was appointed into the advisory group of the youth affairs in 1973. His involvement in youth affairs and his concern for the poor farmers of rural Malaysia have endeared him to the youth as well as the elder electorate of the country. This was the beginning of his meteoric political career.

In government, Anwar was invited to join the ruling political party, the UMNO by Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammad. He was elected in 1984 and since then he held various cabinet positions such as Minister of Youth, Agriculture, Education and Finance. He eventually became the Deputy Prime Minister. In 1997, he served as the Acting Prime Minister when Mahatir asked him to lead the country in his absence.

What endeared Anwar Ibrahim to the people of Malaysia was his unrelenting campaigns to minimize if not eradicate the occurrence of graft and corruption in government. He made commitments to the ideals of empowerment, justice and equity for all. His contribution to the Malaysian economy was hailed by international financial institutions, citing his achievements in leading Malaysia into continued prosperity and economic growth.

When Prime Minister Mahatir fired him as Deputy Prime Minister, his subsequent trial and conviction on what was believed to be trumped up charges, was widely disputed by the international community. Many world leaders called for his release from prison, citing a pattern of political manipulation.

After his painful experiences in solitary confinement and for having been treated as a hard core criminal while in prison despite his having served as the second highest ranked official in the land. Anwar continues his journey in politics and governance with a noble intention to serve his people especially the poor and marginalized sector of Malaysian society.

What is in store for Anwar Ibrahim? I believe that Anwar will one day lead the people of Malaysia in their journey to peace and prosperity as their Prime Minister. It is possible that Anwar will get elected into the political mainstream by his own constituents which his wife Dr. Azizah have served as their leader and representative while Anwar was in solitary confinement.

Shanghai, meaning "above sea" in Chinese, is located in the Yangtze River Delta .

It is a huge metropolis of ports and large skyscrapers. Shanghai didn't start off this big. It first was a small fishing village in east China. Today Shanghai is known to be the largest city in China, fourth largest in the world, and also the busiest, largest port in the world.

Not only was Shanghai a seaport to trade goods, but also ideas and culture. Shanghai gave most of China its new modern culture, but also help develop the Chinese movie industry and technological advancements. Shanghai was the first city in China to use the first motor car and even the first complex sewer system. The movie industry in Shanghai was at it prime from pre-WWII until the end of WWII, because soon Hong Kong would have a rapid growth in movies.

Shanghai provides China money and even modern culture. It is probably the most important city in all east China. With 18,670,000 as there population ( 7,617 per mi.)

Shanghai is known for its industry and shipping. Shanghai's first factory was invested in by the Japanese which was followed by several other foreign investments. These nations saw the importance the potential this small port had in the future. However even with all thee investments, in the ninetieth century, it was not regarded as one of China's major seaports. Not being important in the ninetieth century there weren't any ancient Chinese monuments or temples.

When the Nazi's were prosecuting the Jewish people they had fled everywhere. Shanghai was one of the only cities that allowed Jews and would help them. They would help the Jews find jobs , and a place to live. Judaism was in that time period the largest in the city. Toda, however, it is a mix of many religions such as the Catholic faith, the Muslim faith, and Buddhism.

Will China's Political Views Change During the Olympics?

As the Olympic torch puts its carriers at risk in many nations, companies are lining up to try their hand at milking a profit from the games and the host nation. If enough money can be made from these international games, China would have a tremendous reason to continue their swing toward a more capitalistic world view. With more than a billion mouths to feed, China feels the pressure to find ways to put more money in the bank.

The world has proved time and time again that capitalism brings a higher standard of living than communism in the long run. China has to offer a more liberal enterprise system in order to attract the kind of investment it desires. Ultimately, it is the taxes and income derived from business that allows nations to build strong infrastructures to enable future expansion and growth.

Just the fact that a secretive private nation like China would open its doors to the world for the Olympic games is enough to signal oncoming change. With the intrusion of television cameras and hundreds of foreign news agencies, China will be hard pressed to remain private. This would indeed be the ideal time to unveil new economic and political programs to the world.

Whether China will seize the day or just continue with business as usual will not be known until the dust settles from the Olympics. This could be China's finest hour on the world stage to date. If enough money hits the table, China may even be persuaded to alter its stand on the many human rights violations that are being made known by various world agencies and nations.

Much of the world will march its business models into China throughout the middle of 2008. China can become educated in the political environment necessary to enable businesses and capitalism to thrive. Their government leaders would then be able to implement changes to their political model. These changes could not only affect the politics within China, but a shift of this magnitude would reverberate across the globe.

If China will show a measure of movement toward free trade, better human rights policies, and democracy, the Olympics could be an opportunity for change on a grand scale. The reality is that probably China will paint the best face it can for a month or so. At the end of the games, it will likely return to business as usual. In between, many business and China itself will fill up the coffers with profits from myriad of tourists and others who migrate to these games.

China: the Countdown

We've been allies with China for a long time. Since the 60's, I believe. But with all the things coming out of China, I believe we need to end trade with them.

Half of their government is undecided on the form of government that they have. We can"t trust that. And more and more American jobs are being sent overseas to them. But we get to buy things at half the price after that. No longer shopping at American businesses.

They get richer and richer, and people in American keep getting poorer. Since they have taken so much from America they can afford better education, which I have nothing against, but when they use it against us then I have a problem with it.

The UN must put holds on China's military research. They have been pouring billions into missile and long range weapon programs that already exceed their contract. And they can't be building missiles for nothing can they?

For years I've said that China was a threat to the United States. I have nothing against the Chinese people (especially their women), they also need better lives. But their government keeps getting richer and their people haven't seen an American nickel of that money.

People are just now starting to get on board with me. I've always been right about these things, and I hope I'm wrong. For the record: I have nothing against the Chinese People, just their government.
