Sanctuary

There are many cities in the United States today that have chosen to act outside the law and declare themselves as "sanctuary" cities. These are cities where illegal immigrants and others are safe from being sent back to their native countries. These cities are outside the law - outside the federal law. Basically these cities have chosen a “don't ask, don't tell” policy when it comes to illegals and these cities will not turn these people over to the INS or other federal agencies even if it is known by local authorities what the legal status is of the subjects. I am finding that the majority of the people I know have heard nothing about “sanctuary cities” as our mainstream media has not reported much if anything about this situation. This is a true problem and if you find it hard to believe me, please Google “sanctuary cities” and do your own research.

Sanctuary cities and states are in contempt of the laws of the United States, a contempt that threatens to undermine our country. Many believe that among those residing in US sanctuary cities are also sleeper terrorists and others whose purpose is to destroy the United States and kill as many Americans as possible.

But that is not why I am writing this article. Until the last 2 to 3 weeks, my city being a sanctuary city did not matter to me in the least. I had some vague idea what it meant but that was about it.

I believe many illegals or those with questionable status, may live in my apartment complex as I am only one of a handful of residents who are English speaking. Yes, that does bother me a little but only because I like to talk. But I don't think there is any software in the world that could make me as multi-lingual as I would have to be to carry on a good conversation here in this apartment complex. There are many different ethnic cultures and I would dearly love to learn about each of them, but because the language barrier is so great and because I get frustrated so easily when I am trying to make friends with people, I stay to myself - working, and writing.

But then you had to know that eventually it would involve me. I have recently lost my biggest client, so my finances went to pot faster than even I thought they would. I have been followed by a doctor for a couple of medical problems but because I have no insurance this medical practice stopped seeing me and suggested that I get into our county's MAP (medical assistance program). I started calling one day to find out exactly what I needed to do. I do know that at one time this city I live in had assistance of many varieties offered to citizens of this county and city. Now, because of the number of immigrants flooding the system, it takes 6 to 8 weeks to even get qualified for any assistance of any type - healthcare, food stamps, etc. Plus when you call to get information on where to go to get assistance, no one can give you the correct answer. That day I was told five different things by five different program coordinators. I finally had a class A panic attack, thought I was dying and ended up in the emergency room on a heart monitor for 6 hours. This is what is happening to hard working American citizen's who have lived in this county and city for over 20 years, worked hard and played by the rules. I have one period of hard luck but yet it seems that everyone who is not an American, comes before me. This is not the America I was raised to believe in nor the America my father, cousin, and uncle all fought and died for.

My question for those of you who read this is simple. How can our government allow states and cities to go against policies of the US government concerning immigration? Simple question but no one has the answer.

Our country is in such chaos now and I believe that the government is letting it happen. Why? I think there comes a time when the problems become so out of control that the government doesn't even know how to fix them.

On top of everything since I have no children under 18 and am not old enough for MediCare, so even with no money, I qualify for next to nothing. I am one of those people we all often hear about who falls through the cracks and never gets help. I have even searched for faith based assistance and they are over burdened also and I know that there are many who need help more than me.

So basically I am in a private hell and I don't believe it is of my choosing. No, it seems to me that it is all because my city is a “"sanctuary" city and every immigrant, legal or illegal, comes before me.

Passion and the Democratic Primary

I was recently reviewing some comments to one of my articles published on the net and noticed one comment mentioning how "passionate" I seem to be about this primary season. And they are absolutely right -- I am.

There are many reasons for that passion -- foremost is the direction I have seen our country go since the beginning of the Bush administration. My father, my uncle and my only male cousin all gave their lives for this country -- for the rights we have as Americans. But with a few Presidential signing statements or things just not told to Congress, I have watched those rights eroded -- little by little, bit by bit. I have seen the war in Iraq -- an unnecessary war -- which destroyed a country and killed 4000+ Americans and by some estimates 800,000 Iraqis' (most of them innocent).

I have seen bad decision after bad decision trickle down to me - to one layoff after another until now I can only get temporary or contract assignments which have no healthcare insurance. I have two chronic medical conditions - so ask me if I am better off than I was seven years ago. I have seen my life go from being really great with a stable income and insurance to a battle just to continue to live day after day. I am one of those people who have to split medications in half so the prescriptions will last longer.

I have also watched the price of gas and everything else go up, (while the oil companies have made record profits - and not pay taxes on those profits.)

I have had to work under bosses who have absolutely no business in a civilized society much less supervising staff. So, after working for people who have no idea how to run a business and to save gas - I have started my own small business working on the internet from home. Thank God my family believes in me for I have had to totally depend on them to keep everything going. Soon, I am applying for a small business grant or loan from the government but I am sure with the Republicans in charge that will be a total nightmare also.

I have watched while millions have lost their homes because of predatory lending companies selling very creative financing and also because so many owners have seen their jobs shipped overseas.

I have also seen a surplus turn into a massive debt owned by countries who we have issues with. Example China -- we owe them trillions and we have trade problems with them. Now, you tell me, how do we go to our "banker" and complain about the way they are "running their other businesses".

China uses the interest we pay on the debt to buy oil from the Sudanese government and remains Sudan's major weapons provider -- weapons which are passed down to armies who continue the genocide in Darfur.

I have sat and watched one of our major cities destroyed by a hurricane and the government waiting a good week to help the people who lost everything. What I still don't understand is if the news could show video of dead bodies floating in the flooded streets of New Orleans, why couldn't our government get there faster with water and other supplies? (Heck of a job, Brownie!)

Passionate - - passionate??? No - actually I am damn angry - I want my life back, my stable income with my healthcare benefits. I am mad and I have no idea what to about it except to make sure that the next president will at least be a person who has a clue what is going on in this world. And I guess if that doesn't work, I will join the movement to replace our government, which our Constitution tells us to do when the old government isn't working anymore.

Open Letter to Senator Obama

First, how did you manage to get Gov Richardson to give you his endorsement this week? As we both know, Gov. Richardson would not be in the position where he is today if it were not for President Clinton and Hillary Clinton. He held two prominent positions in the Clinton administration and the ex-president campaigned for the Gov. when he first ran for the governorship of New Mexico.

So, my question is what did you promise Gov. Richardson in exchange for his endorsement? I know that some political deal was made. Did you offer him the Vice Presidential position in your administration? You must have offered something extremely lucrative to get Richardson to stab the Clintons in the back. As time goes by, you are showing me more and more that you are just a typical politician and not a person who could be a leading statesman for our party.

My second question is why are you standing in the way of a re-do of the Florida and Michigan primaries. Senator Clinton has raised all the money to pay for these primaries so it would costs you nothing - so what are you afraid of? Is it that she might overcome your delegate lead or popular vote lead? And as we both know, she is already ahead in the Electoral College vote. By disenfranchising 3 million democratic voters, this will calls into question the legitimacy of your nomination if you win. Remember 2000 - Bush v Gore when the courts decided that Bush had won the election.

Bush's whole presidency his first term was considered stolen from Gore and Bush was not the legitimate president - do you want this to happen to you - for without Florida and Michigan, I assure you that many will feel that way. It could even cause the Republican candidate to win the election. Is this what you want Senator Obama - a loss for your party. Do you want to be president that badly that you would screw your party and 3 million democratic voters in order to become president? What are you really afraid of? You are only 45; you have years left to run for this office so why can't you wait 4 to 8 years?

Something about all of this does not smell right to me - you are running from something. Is it the Drudge report I found buried deep in the archives where no one knows it is? What are you afraid of Senator Obama? The American people deserve to know and if you don't answer these questions, you will be seen as just another political hack and I for one will not be able to support you. And I will continue to write articles and post them all over the internet until you are honest with the America people.

I Report - You Decide

I have found some interesting facts while watching C-Span last night. The minority leader of the Florida legislature was on.

He said that every state which moved up their primaries were originally told that their votes would not count but after a DNC meeting in Atlanta, these same states were granted an exemption except for Michigan and Florida.

The Democratic minority in Florida Legislature tried to get a bill passed moving the primary back to February 5th put the bill was voted down by the majority Republicans in the legislature.

All candidates signed an agreement that they would not campaign in Florida but all candidates names were left on the ballot - everyone!

Over 1.75 million Democrats voted in that primary every knowing that their votes might not count and they voted overwhelming for Hillary. If this vote was counted, Hillary could be in the lead in the popular vote.

So, who is pulling the strings here? Is it the Republican's because they know they will not be able to beat Hillary or is it the Democrats who don't want Hillary to be the party nominee?

I report - you decide.

A Woman President

I believe that if we do not elect Senator Clinton as president at this time in our history, our country will never elect a woman. So rarely do we have a woman with such intelligence and experience who so passionately supports the issues that are of such great importance to our country. Rarely do we have a woman who has the experience of making change from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and is ready from day one to face the problems that we know about and the challenges that will surprise us. Her solutions to major issues, both domestically and internationally, are complete and she knows exactly how she is going to pay for these solutions.

If she is elected president, she will also join a growing club of recently elected women as heads of state in many countries around the world and she is also becoming quite an expert in foreign policy.

Senator Obama just is not seasoned enough in the way of Washington and how to use the system to make the changes he envisions. Actually, most of his time in public office has been spent running for the next higher office. His campaign has said that immediately after law school, he became a community organizer but that is not true - it was several years before he moved back to Chicago as an organizer. So, the resume that we see in his campaign literature is not complete and, in my opinion, neither is his experience.

Yes, Obama has the ability to eloquently present a vision for our country but a vision without experience will only become a dream. Hillary Clinton has a vision also - of change and of making life better for the forgotten voices heard in our country. I support her because with her experience, that shared vision can become our future. Her election requires all of us to play a part in rethinking what our lives are and what they should be. What we must do is break through the thinking that has too long captured us politically. As she said in a speech made several years ago, “We need a new politics of meaning. We need a new definition of civil society which answers the unanswerable questions of how we can have a society that fills us up again and makes us feel that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.”

Open Letter to Senator Clinton and Senator Obama

I am one of the unheard voices that I expect both of you to be listening to. But you can't be listening if you are so busy apologizing for your campaigns! Can't you manage the people around you? Well, if you can't, how can I trust either of you to manage the White House? I am having immense doubts on this point with both of you.

Maybe it is better that we only have white males to run for this high office because it has become obvious that if you are black or a woman, you can't stop name calling!

Senator Obama - Ms Ferraro was correct - if you were a white male, you would not be running because you do not have enough experience. And don't throw that “I had the judgment to be against the war before anyone.” If you were so against the war, why have you voted for every funding bill that the President has asked for? Why did you vote “not present” on 140 votes in the Illinois legislature? Besides being against the war before you were for the war, what exactly have you done? Show me your good judgment because after this last week, I am beginning to doubt that judgment.

Senator Clinton - I am so very disappointed in you. Send President Clinton on a vacation until the convention. He is not doing you any good in the role he has been given. And how could you throw Ms. Ferraro under the bus? Stand up to the people who are managing your campaign and stand up for yourself. Jeri Ferrero paved the way for you and other women just so that you could have the right to be running for the position that you are and you turn your back on her?

Oh, by the way, please make sure you clarify what you have done in your career because I am tired of having to go thru your career for my family and friends. If you want their vote, you tell them what you have done because I believe you have changed our country in many ways but it is not up to me to tell others - that is your job. I have enough problems just keeping my head above water economically right now.

Also, I have the solution for who should be our party's nominee. It is not the popular vote or how many states you have won - it is the Electoral College votes that counts. Add the Electoral College votes for every state that each of you have won and use that number.

Most of all I can't believe that this simple answer has to come from me - who is not getting a paycheck from either of your campaigns.

Good night and good luck!
