Apocalypse: A Load of Big Old Goobledegook

The new "Apocalypse" is coming to a planet near you. That planet is called Earth.

For people who are with the "Apocalypse" happening, I advise you do not read this article.

Quite frankly I've had enough of all this Apocalypse palaver. Its all over the news. Everybody is worrying about it. I personally have to much to do on "Apocalypse day" (Wednesday 10thSept 08). So Mr Apocalypse could you please move it to a different day, I don't think my schedule will allow me to visit you on Wednesday.

What about the Millennium? Wasn't the world supposed to end then? Wasn't we supposed to all die in a big mass apocalypse? Maybe Buffy the Vampire slayer saved the day, I don't know?

To be honest I feel it's a load of gobbledegook. The planet is strong. The people and species that live upon it are strong. So how would some thing so big be wiped out by …nothing.

Rumours and made up stories are what leads to an "Apocalypse", some sad boring person sitting at home, reports to the media that they think that the world is going to end and everyone believes it. Hello…don't take what you read in the papers or see on the news to heart.

If I bet £1 for every person who believes that the "Apocalypse" is going to happen, I'd be a millionaire!! Not a bad idea ay?

So to sum it up…

Little person sitting at home - rings media - reports "Apocalypse" - Media publish it - everyone is shocked blah blah - The end of the world day comes - everyone carries on with their lives as normal until the next "report".

The end = the day you die

Apocalypse = a load of rubbish.

Eurovision: A Song Contest or Mere European Debating

How would you describe the Eurovision song contest? As a fair voted, friendly contest were participants sing and dance their hearts out to make their country proud? Or just a mass political voting scheme that results in the same countries being placed in the top 10 year after year?

Has anyone ever noticed that since the Labour Party have been elected we haven't even so much as come close to gaining a good Eurovision place 95% of the time. Nil points to Jemini with "Cry Baby" in 2003 and not much better since. The last time the United Kingdom won was 1997, the closest to winning since was in 1998 and 2002.

Here are the United Kingdom result for the last 10 years.

2008 Even If > Andy Abraham > scoring 14 points finishing 24th

2007 Flying the Flag (For You) > Scooch > scoring 19 points finishing 22nd

2006 Teenage life > Daz Sampson > scoring 25 points finishing 19th

2005 Touch My Fire > Javine > scoring 18 points finishing 22nd

2004 Hold On To Our Love > James Fox > scoring 29 points finishing 16th

2003 Cry Baby > Jemini > scoring 0 points finishing 26th

2002 Come Back > Jessica Garlick > scoring 111 points finishing 3rd

2001 No Dream Impossible > Lindsay D > scoring 28 points finishing 15th

2000 Don't Play That Song Again > Nikki French > scoring 28 points finishing 16th

1999 Say It Again > Precious > scoring 38 points finishing 12th

1998 Where are you? > Imaani > scoring 166 points finishing 2nd

For the past six years or so the Eurovision results show that countries vote for their neighbours and or friends. Seeing as we have just about criticised and dis-engaged from every country in Europe I set to stand a solid ground and say that there is no hope left for the United Kingdom in winning another contest.

Terry Wogan proves that there is no hope for the United Kingdom by announcing on live TV that he may not return to commentate for us in next years Eurovision. If we cannot get any were and cannot listen to Terry Wogan with his harsh comments, then what is the point of entering anymore?

So is the Eurovision a song contest or just a European political debate? Will there ever be hope for the UK again?

Who knows?

CD Singles to be Taken Off Retail Shelves Across the Uk

CD chart singles are being taken off of retail shelves due to the large volume of chart downloads being made via the Internet and mobile phone devices. Retailers all across the United Kingdom are being forced to throw out CD chart singles because they are simply not making enough profit. Downloads will become the new way to buy and cast a vote for your favourite artists via the Internet and mobile phone device.

In my opinion, this has a 75% chance of failer, quite simply because of the fact that people are torn away from the freedom of walking into a retail store such as HMV and purchasing the single. What do people who do not have the luxury of owning a computer with Internet access do? What do people do who do not own a credit/debit card to purchase the download with? Or a mobile phone device that is WAP compatible, and/or capable of the technology of receiving a download single. Although technology now days allows the majority of the population to handle a mobile phone device that will receive download data, there still exists the problem of using top-up credit and monthly balance to make the purchase. Especially when you already have to pay to use the WAP service to download the single in the first place.

Future limited edition discs and cases would no longer exist which would put collector's discs to a stop.

Another problem would be the charts. All votes that would have been made by people who cannot download, but instead purchase at a retail store would be lost. Therefore resulting in an unfair voting system where artists don't get their full potential votes.

So to conclude, is taking CD singles off of the retail shelves such a good idea?

Battle of the Tomatoes

Located at Buñol in Spain, every year in the month of August, around 30,000 people from around the world take part in a massive tomato fight.

The fight lasts for two hours in which people battle with more than 150,000lb (68,000 kg) of over ripe tomatoes.

The battle, which is called The La Tomatina festival, dates back to 1944 when hooligans at the local carnival in Buñol hurled tomatoes at the procession. The fruity frolics where so popular that they were re-created a year later making the carnival a mere warm up act for the huge tomato fight.

Large trucks bring in the tons of tomatoes each year from the Extremadura region of Spain where fruit is a lot cheaper. Participants in the battle are encouraged to wear goggles and gloves for their protection and are told to squash the tomatoes before using them in battle to stop causes of injury.

At 11am a ham is placed on top of a greased pole and once someone has managed to climb up and take the ham from its resting place, the carnage begins.

A cannon is fired to sound the end of the battle, in which hoses are sprayed through the streets and once again Buñol returns back to normal until the battle begins again next year.

People slip and slide as the mass battle takes place

One man is over come by the sludgy mess
